Aquasonic CLEAR® Ultrasound Gel — Colorless & Fragrance-Free | Parker Laboratories
Parker Laboratories Aquasonic CLEAR® Ultrasound Gel is a colorless, fragrance-free ultrasound coupling medium for diagnostic and therapeutic medical ultrasound procedures.
CLEAR is based on Parker's established Aquasonic ultrasound-gel platform but removes the added color and fragrance of traditional Aquasonic 100. Its water-soluble, non-staining formulation is acoustically designed for the broad range of frequencies used by medical ultrasound equipment and provides a clear option for facilities and patients who prefer gel without added color or fragrance.
Aquasonic CLEAR is nonsterile and available in formats ranging from compact 60 g tubes and single-use packettes to 5-liter bulk refill systems.
Why Choose Aquasonic CLEAR?
Aquasonic CLEAR's primary distinction is straightforward: medical ultrasound coupling performance without added fragrance or color.
Parker identifies the formulation as the following:
- Colorless and fragrance-free
- Acoustically correct across medical ultrasound frequencies
- Hypoallergenic
- Bacteriostatic
- Non-irritating
- Water-soluble
- Non-staining
- Formaldehyde-free
- Paraben-free
- Designed for diagnostic and therapeutic medical ultrasound
For Parker's traditional blue formulation, compare Aquasonic 100 Ultrasound Transmission Gel.

| 5 L ECONOPAC | 03-54 | Four 5 L containers + 2 refillable dispensers | Highest-volume institutional use |
Which Aquasonic CLEAR Size Should I Choose?
The gel formulation remains substantially the same across the product family. The key difference is how much gel is required and how it will be dispensed between patients.
20 g Single-Use Packettes — 03-20
Choose 03-20 when individual dispensing is more important than the lowest cost per ounce.
Each packette contains 20 g of nonsterile Aquasonic CLEAR and is intended to be discarded after one use. This format reduces reliance on a shared open bottle and is particularly useful for mobile equipment, procedure kits, and settings where cross-contamination from a multi-use container is a concern.
Important: single-use does not mean sterile. Parker REF 03-20 is explicitly nonsterile.
When a procedure requires sterile ultrasound coupling gel, choose Sterile Aquasonic 100 Ultrasound Transmission Gel rather than substituting a nonsterile CLEAR packet.
60 g Doppler Tube — 03-02
The 60 g tube is the most portable reusable Aquasonic CLEAR configuration.
It fits perfectly with handheld Doppler equipment, portable ultrasound systems, mobile treatment kits, and lower-volume treatment rooms where a full-size dispenser is unnecessary.
250 mL / 0.25 Liter Dispenser — 03-08
The 250 mL bottle is the practical everyday choice for many clinics.
It provides enough volume for recurring ultrasound procedures while remaining convenient to store beside a treatment unit or imaging system.
For an individual treatment room, 03-08 is the best general-purpose starting size.
1 Liter Bottle — 03-34
Choose the 1-liter bottle when ultrasound gel consumption is high enough to justify a larger container but the facility does not want to establish a bulk refill program.
The bottle includes a dispenser cap and works particularly well in higher-volume diagnostic, rehabilitation, and therapy environments using ultrasound routinely.
5 Liter SONICPAC—03-50
REF 03-50 is Parker's 5-liter bulk format and includes a refillable dispenser.
Parker's current instructions place an important limitation on this configuration: refill containers and refillable dispensers are intended for low-risk patients and procedures in non-acute-care facilities.
Facilities should therefore treat the SONICPAC as part of a controlled refill workflow rather than simply as an oversized squeeze bottle.
5 Liter ECONOPAC — 03-54
The ECONOPAC is the highest-volume Aquasonic CLEAR configuration.
It contains:
Four 5-liter containers plus two refillable dispensers.
This configuration makes the most sense for organizations consuming enough coupling gel to justify a standardized bulk-refill program.
As with the SONICPAC, Parker's current instructions reserve refill containers and refillable dispensers for appropriate low-risk procedures in non-acute-care facilities.
Aquasonic CLEAR vs. Aquasonic 100
Aquasonic CLEAR and Aquasonic 100 are both ultrasound coupling gels from Parker. The principal purchasing difference is the appearance and fragrance of the formulation rather than the intended energy modality.

Aquasonic CLEAR vs. TheraSonic Ultrasound Gel
We carry more than one professional ultrasound coupling medium.
| Feature | Aquasonic CLEAR | TheraSonic |
|---|---|---|
| Manufacturer | Parker Laboratories | Richmar / Compass Health |
| Color | Colorless | Blue |
| Fragrance-free | Yes | Manufacturer positioning differs |
| Medical ultrasound coupling | Yes | Yes |

| Strongest reason to choose | No color/fragrance + Parker packaging range | Richmar ecosystem and alternative bottle sizes |
Choose Aquasonic CLEAR when a colorless, fragrance-free Parker formulation or single-use packet is the priority.
Compare TheraSonic Ultrasound Gel with Richmar packaging or its 2 oz, 8 oz, 16 oz, and 5 L size progression when it better fits the treatment environment.
Single-Use vs. Multi-Use Aquasonic CLEAR
Package format affects more than convenience.
| Consideration | 03-20 packets | 03-02 / 03-08 / 03-34 | 03-50 / 03-54 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sterile | No | No | No |
| Single use | Yes | No | No |
| Shared container | No | Yes | Yes |
| Bulk refill | No | No | Yes |
| Intact-skin use | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Cross-contamination concern | Best CLEAR format | Multi-use precautions apply | Low-risk/non-acute workflow |
| Highest-volume purchasing | No | Moderate | Yes |
Current multi-use instructions specify external use on intact, unbroken skin in facilities where cross-contamination is of minimal concern.
The separately packaged 03-20 single-use packettes are intended for one use and are useful when eliminating a shared open container is important.
How Should Aquasonic CLEAR Refillable Bottles Be Managed?
Parker's current instructions provide specific guidance for the 03-50 and 03-54 refill systems.
Do not continually “top off” a partially filled bottle.
Before refilling, the remaining gel should be consumed or discarded. Refillable containers should be washed with hot soapy water, rinsed, and thoroughly dried. Parker also instructs facilities to clean the bottle neck and dispenser tip with isopropyl alcohol or an appropriate hospital-grade disinfectant before refilling.
The corresponding gel should be returned only to its correctly labeled dispenser, with the bulk-container lot number recorded.
Cracked or damaged refill bottles should be discarded, and Parker recommends replacing refillable bottles according to facility policy, approximately monthly.
Is Aquasonic CLEAR sterile?
No.
Aquasonic CLEAR 03-02, 03-08, 03-20, 03-34, 03-50, and 03-54 are ultrasound coupling products that are not sterile.
The 03-20 packettes are single-use, but they are not sterile.
For procedures in which sterile ultrasound gel is indicated, use Sterile Aquasonic 100 Ultrasound Transmission Gel.
Can Aquasonic CLEAR Be Used for Therapeutic Ultrasound?
Yes.
Parker identifies Aquasonic CLEAR for both diagnostic and therapeutic medical ultrasound procedures.
Its formulation is acoustically designed for the broad range of frequencies used in medical ultrasound equipment.
For therapeutic ultrasound systems and related equipment, browse Therapeutic Ultrasound Equipment & Combination Therapy Systems.
Can Aquasonic CLEAR Be Used With 1 MHz and 3 MHz Ultrasound?
Parker describes Aquasonic CLEAR as acoustically correct across the broad range of frequencies used in medical ultrasound.
This includes common therapeutic ultrasound systems that operate around 1 MHz and 3 MHz, as long as the equipment instructions specify a conventional water-soluble ultrasound coupling gel.
Our US Pro 2000 Ultrasound FAQ and Troubleshooting Guide explains why adequate coupling gel is necessary to reduce air gaps at the transducer-to-skin interface.
Is Aquasonic CLEAR the Same as Electrode Gel?
No.
Aquasonic CLEAR is an ultrasound coupling medium designed to transmit acoustic energy.
Electrode gels are intended to support electrical current or physiological signal transmission.
For a detailed explanation, see our SignaGel vs. Electrode Gel guide or browse Conductive Gels, Lotions & Contact Media.
Does Aquasonic CLEAR Contain Propylene Glycol?
Parker's current instructions specifically warn against using Aquasonic CLEAR on patients with a known sensitivity to propylene glycol because an allergic reaction may occur.
This precaution remains important, even though Parker describes the product as hypoallergenic and non-irritating.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Aquasonic CLEAR used for?
Aquasonic CLEAR is a medical ultrasound coupling gel used between an ultrasound transducer and the patient's skin to establish an acoustic interface for diagnostic or therapeutic ultrasound.
What is the difference between Aquasonic CLEAR and regular Aquasonic 100?
Aquasonic CLEAR is colorless and has no added fragrance. Traditional Aquasonic 100 is clear blue and has a slight fragrance. Both are Parker medical ultrasound coupling gels.
Is Aquasonic CLEAR actually clear?
Yes. Parker specifically formulates Aquasonic CLEAR without added color.
Does Aquasonic CLEAR have fragrance?
No. The manufacturer identifies it as fragrance-free.
Is Aquasonic CLEAR hypoallergenic?
Parker describes Aquasonic CLEAR as hypoallergenic and non-irritating. The current instructions nevertheless warn against use in patients with a known sensitivity to propylene glycol.
Is Aquasonic CLEAR sterile?
No. All standard Aquasonic CLEAR configurations are nonsterile.
Are the 20 g packets sterile?
No. REF 03-20 is single-use but explicitly nonsterile.
Which Aquasonic CLEAR size is best for a clinic?
For ordinary recurring treatment-room use, the 250 mL / 03-08 bottle is generally the most practical starting size.
Choose 03-34 for greater clinic volume and 03-50 or 03-54 only when a properly managed bulk-refill workflow is appropriate.
Which size is best for portable ultrasound or Doppler use?
The 60 g 03-02 Doppler-sized tube is the most portable, reusable option.
Choose 03-20 packettes if individual-use packaging is more important than having a reusable tube.
Does the 5-liter Aquasonic CLEAR include a dispenser?
Yes. Parker identifies REF 03-50 as a 5-liter SONICPAC with a dispenser.
What comes with the Aquasonic CLEAR ECONOPAC?
REF 03-54 contains four 5-liter containers of Aquasonic CLEAR and two refillable dispensers.
Can Aquasonic CLEAR replace electrical stimulation gel?
Do not assume so. Aquasonic CLEAR is specifically formulated as an ultrasound coupling medium. Use an electrical contact medium when the electrotherapy device or electrode manufacturer requires one.
Product-use notice: Aquasonic CLEAR is nonsterile. Follow the current Parker instructions, ultrasound-equipment instructions and applicable facility infection-control procedures. Multi-use containers are intended for external use on intact, unbroken skin. Parker's current instructions reserve refill containers and refillable dispensers for appropriate low-risk procedures in non-acute-care facilities.
