Tensive® Conductive Adhesive Gel, 50g Tube | Parker 22-60

Tensive® Conductive Adhesive Gel from Parker Laboratories provides electrical conductivity and a temporary adhesive hold for compatible electromedical procedures. Parker lists TENS, EMG, EEG, and other electromedical procedures among its uses, with the important exception of defibrillation. The product is non-sterile, non-flammable, odorless, and bacteriostatic. This Balego listing is for one 50g tube, Parker product number 22-60.

Use Tensive when the connected electrode and electromedical device instructions call for a conductive adhesive gel rather than a conventional non-adhesive electrode gel. If you are comparing several types of contact media, browse our conductive gels, pastes, and electromedical contact media.

Why Choose an Adhesive Conductive Gel?

Tensive is useful when a procedure requires both conductive contact and additional electrode hold. Unlike a standard electrode gel, which mainly creates a conductive interface, Tensive also has adhesive properties that can reduce the need for separate tape in compatible applications. Parker also describes the product as immediately conductive and water-soluble.

That does not mean every electrode needs added adhesive gel. Selection should always follow the electromedical device and electrode manufacturer's instructions. Users working with modern self-adhesive stimulation pads can review our TENS electrode selection guide rather than automatically adding conductive gel to a pre-gelled electrode.

How to Apply Tensive® Conductive Adhesive Gel

Parker's instructions provide a particularly useful application detail that deserves to be on this product page: more gel is not necessarily better.

StepManufacturer-based guidance
1. Confirm compatibilityFollow the instructions supplied with the electromedical device and electrode.
2. Dispense the gelTypically place one drop of Tensive in the center of the electrode.
3. Spread evenlyForm a thin, even film over the electrode surface.
4. Avoid excess gelToo much gel can prevent the electrode from adhering correctly to the skin.
5. Remove after useWipe Tensive away using a moistened soft cloth.
6. Prevent contaminationDo not allow the tube tip to contact the patient, staff, or instruments.
7. Store correctlyProtect the product from direct sunlight.

Tensive® vs. Other Conductive Products

Choosing the right contact medium is more useful than choosing the product with the broadest application list.

ProductTypeChoose it when...
Tensive® Conductive Adhesive GelAdhesive conductive gelYou need conductivity and adhesive hold in a compatible EEG, EMG, TENS, or other electromedical workflow. Not for defibrillation.
SignaGel® Electrode GelMultipurpose saline electrode gelYou need a conventional conductive gel for compatible ECG, EMG, biofeedback, or permitted defibrillation applications rather than added adhesive hold.
Spectra® 360 Electrode GelSalt- and chloride-free electrode gelYou need a salt-free option for compatible applications such as TENS, ECG, patient monitoring, or conductive rubber/carbon electrodes. It is not recommended for defibrillation.
Ten20® Conductive PasteAdhesive conductive pasteYou specifically need a thicker paste for compatible non-gelled neurodiagnostic electrodes, including EEG, EP, PSG, or MSLT workflows.

For the broader clinical distinction between saline gel, salt-free gel, and adhesive conductive media, read our SignaGel vs. Electrode Gel guide instead of duplicating that information on every product page.

Important Tensive® Safety Information

Do not use Tensive for defibrillation. Parker expressly excludes defibrillation from the product's indications.

Use Tensive externally on intact, unbroken skin only. Do not use the product on a patient with a known history of sensitivity to parabens. Discard the product if the package is damaged or there is evidence of contamination, and keep the tube tip from contacting patients, staff, or instruments.

These precautions should remain product-specific. For clinical electrode placement, stimulation parameters, contraindications, and procedure technique, follow the connected equipment's instructions rather than relying on a conductive gel product page.

FAQs

What is Tensive Conductive Adhesive Gel used for?

Parker recommends Tensive for compatible electromedical procedures, including TENS, EMG, and EEG, where an adhesive conductive gel is appropriate. Defibrillation is specifically excluded.

Does Tensive® conduct immediately?

Yes. Parker describes Tensive as immediately conductive, so there is no activation wait after correct application.

How much Tensive should I apply?

Parker's typical application instruction is one drop in the center of the electrode, spread into a thin, even film. Avoid over-application: excess gel can actually reduce electrode adhesion.

Is Tensive the same as Ten20 Conductive Paste?

No. Tensive is a conductive gel intended for a broad range of compatible electromedical procedures. Ten20 Conductive Paste is a thicker adhesive paste designed for use with compatible non-gelled neurodiagnostic electrodes.

For a deeper explanation of neurodiagnostic paste and skin preparation, visit our EEG & ECG Diagnostic Supply Guides.

Can Tensive be used on broken skin?

No. The current manufacturer's instructions specify external use on intact, unbroken skin only.

Can Tensive be used for defibrillation?

No. Tensive is not indicated for defibrillation. If your workflow requires a defibrillation-compatible conductive medium, review products specifically indicated for that use, such as SignaGel® Electrode Gel, and follow the defibrillator instructions.
