Troubleshooting

Identify your device.

What each TENS 3000 control does

The unit uses physical dials and switches, not a digital menu. There is a separate intensity control for each channel, but only one set of mode, pulse-rate, pulse-width, and timer controls.

Swipe or scroll sideways to read every column.

ControlFunctionImportant distinction
Two top dialsChannel ON/OFF and intensityBoth must be fully OFF before changing connections.
Pulse rate, HzPulse frequencyNot a strength scale or treatment time.
Pulse width, µsDuration of each pulseMicroseconds are not minutes.
B / N / MBurst, Normal, or ModulationSelects the pattern, not a diagnosis.
15 / 30 / CTimed or continuous operationC is a timer position, not a fourth mode.
Green indicator lightsPulse indicatorsNot a battery-percentage display.

Compare your panel with the manual's control descriptions and illustrations on pages 17–18. The sliding cover and clear cap protect settings; neither replaces switching both channels off.

Why do some listings show different numbers?

The English manual describes 15/30/C and a 30–260 µs pulse-width range. The 2023 manufacturer sell sheet agrees on the timer but lists 50–250 µs; the manufacturer's online listing instead lists 30/60-minute timing. We cannot establish a hardware revision from those conflicting descriptions alone.

Check the markings and instructions supplied with your unit. When they disagree with an online reference, send us the label and control-panel details before relying on a particular setting. A maximum specification is not a recommended treatment dose.

How to set up the TENS 3000

Use this sequence only after your clinician has confirmed that TENS is appropriate and explained your settings. The manufacturer's illustrated setup section begins on page 14.

  1. Switch both channels completely off. Turn both top dials counterclockwise to their OFF positions. Leave them off while handling the battery, leads, pads, or parameter switches.
  2. Install the specified 9-volt battery. Slide the battery cover down, match the polarity markings, and place the removal ribbon beneath the battery. Close the compartment without forcing the contacts.
  3. Connect the prescribed electrode pair or pairs. One channel uses one lead with two attached pads; two channels use two leads and four pads. One pad from each of two different leads is not one complete channel.
  4. Apply pads to the approved locations. Prepare clean, dry, intact skin and follow the pad instructions. Confirm full contact and enough slack in the wires that they do not tug on the pads.
  5. Check the prescribed parameters, then start gently. After all connections and pads are secure, turn on the required channel and raise intensity slowly to the clinician-described comfortable sensation. Leave unused channels off. Do not copy someone else's dial position.
  6. End the session by switching both dials off. Do this before moving or removing pads or unplugging leads, even when timed output has already stopped.

NHS TENS guidance likewise calls for powered-off setup, a slow increase, and a sensation that is not painful. A settings list alone is incomplete without the pad locations, treatment length, and instructions for an unexpected response.

B, N, and M: identify the pattern, not the “best” setting.

SelectorBasic patternWhat not to infer
B: BurstGrouped pulsesRhythmic output is not an NMES work/rest program.
N: NormalRegularly repeated pulses“Normal” does not mean maximum intensity.
M: ModulationA repeating change in output patternThe same mode name on another device does not prove identical behavior.

Our TENS mode terminology guide discusses other patterns, including SD1 and SD2 on a different platform. Those additional modes are not on the TENS 3000. Do not import another unit's modulation algorithm or settings into this one.

When a prescribed sensation changes unexpectedly, describe the selected mode and what changed rather than repeatedly increasing the intensity. Your clinician should decide whether to alter the treatment; product support can help identify the controls.

Is normal mode the same as continuous?

No. N selects the pulse pattern; C selects timer operation without a preset timed stop. A treatment duration still has to be specified. Continuous operation is not permission to sleep with the unit, use it indefinitely, or automatically repeat a completed session.

TENS 3000 not working: start with the symptom

Turn both channel dials fully OFF before inspecting, reconnecting, or replacing anything. The following checks organize a support request; they do not prove which component has failed. Do not rotate a live plug, pull on a live cable, or test bare pins against your skin.

What you noticeCheck with power off.Next decision
No light or no outputBattery orientation, condition, and visible contact damageAfter correct setup with a suitable fresh battery, persistent failure needs supplier support.
One channel is silent. Both pads on that channel's lead, full connections, and the selected channel controlDo not assume an internal fault from one inactive pair.
Weak or uneven sensationPad contact, cable condition, battery, and the recorded setupAsk the clinician about an ineffective treatment; do not compensate by escalating settings.
Sharp or burning sensationSkin, lifted edges, and damaged accessories after stoppingDo not restart on injured or irritated skin. Seek clinical advice for a reaction.
Output cuts in and outLoose connectors, visible cable damage, and pad adhesionStop using questionable parts; request a confirmed-compatible replacement or service advice.
Output ends at a repeatable time. The selected timer position and elapsed session timeA timed stop may be expected; unpredictable interruption needs further checking.

The manufacturer's troubleshooting section is on pages 21–22. Do not dismantle the housing, modify connectors, or repair internal circuitry. We can help with identification and supplier support; we cannot diagnose symptoms from a description of the device.

Why is the green light steady instead of flashing?

The manual explains that rapid indicator pulses can look continuously lit above approximately 30 Hz. That appearance alone does not establish a fault. An illuminated indicator also does not prove that the pad placement or contact is correct.

Report whether the light is absent, visibly pulsing, or apparently steady, together with the mode and rate shown on the panel. Do not change a prescribed rate merely to make the lamp blink.

Battery, pads, and lead wires: replace the right item.

The TENS 3000 uses a removable 9-volt battery, not a built-in USB charging system. Match the battery type to your unit's instructions. Do not charge a disposable battery or attach a charger to an electrode socket. Remove a depleted battery and remove the battery during extended storage.

For wiring, Richmar explicitly identifies WW3005 Standard 45-inch TENS Lead Wires as approved for TENS 3000. Our 45-inch replacement lead-wire page provides ordering and connector details. Confirm the device-end plug and electrode-end connection rather than choosing by cable length alone.

Our electrode connector guide explains why a pin, snap, and tab are different interfaces. A connector that fits does not, by itself, establish a suitable electrode size or clinical placement. Ask before changing pad type or substituting smaller pads.

Keep a record of the pad and lead references that worked with your prescribed setup. That makes a future replacement request more precise than asking for “universal TENS pads.”

Does this manual match your TENS unit?

Similar controls do not make instructions interchangeable. This comparison is for model identification, not a recommendation to replace an otherwise suitable device.

After treatment: store the components separately.

Once both channels are off, remove the pads gently by their edges rather than pulling the wires. Return reusable pads to their liners and follow their storage instructions. For the housing and leads, follow the manual's cleaning and care section; do not treat adhesive hydrogel as a surface to disinfect with household cleaners.

Keep the instruction booklet, device label information, and accessory references with the case. When replacing consumables, recheck the supplied instructions instead of assuming that a new electrode uses the same care method as the previous one.

Common manual questions

Can I convert the intensity dial number into milliamps?

Do not use a simple dial-number conversion as a treatment dose. A dial position is not a patient-specific current measurement. Describe both the setting and the sensation when speaking with your clinician, and leave electrical output testing to qualified service personnel.

Where should I place the pads for my pain?

Use the placement demonstrated by your prescribing professional. This operating guide deliberately does not provide a one-size-fits-all body map. Ask for written placement instructions when the approved locations or pad pairing are unclear.

Can I use different modes on the two channels?

No. The unit has one shared mode selector. The separate top dials let you adjust channel intensity independently; they do not create two different programs.

What can I do when the PDF will not open?

Try the manual landing page and select the TENS 3000 English link there. Once open, use the PDF viewer's save or print control. Contact us when the available edition does not match your booklet or device.

When to stop and ask for clinical guidance

This summary is not a complete contraindication list. Review pages 6–10 of the English manual, particularly for implanted cardiac devices, epilepsy, heart disease, pregnancy, impaired sensation, or an undiagnosed source of pain. Do not assume another model's permission or warning overrides the instructions for your TENS 3000.

NHS safety guidance warns against use while sleeping, bathing, driving, or operating machinery. Do not apply stimulation across the chest, through the head, on the neck, or to broken, irritated, infected, or numb skin. Stop for painful stimulation, a skin reaction, worsening pain, or new symptoms and seek appropriate clinical advice.

Send us the details that make troubleshooting useful.

Use our product-support contact page for manual access, part identification, or a suspected equipment fault. Include your order number when available and a clear photograph of the device label and control panel; a photograph of your body is not necessary for equipment identification.

A useful support message: “My device is a TENS 3000, model DT3002. The issue affects one channel/both channels. The indicators are off/pulsing/steady. My timer is set to __, and the problem begins __ minutes after starting. I have checked the battery and connections with both channels off. The lead and pad references are __. Please help confirm the matching manual and next equipment check.”

Keep clinical questions about treatment location, settings, pain relief, or adverse symptoms with your prescribing professional. Review our TENS 3000 product information when you need current purchase details rather than operating instructions.
