Magister Occipivot & Pivotal Therapy Devices

The Magister Occipivot, identified as 00-4502 in the FEI catalog and 1950 in older Magister instructions, is a shaped support for the muscles at the base of the skull. Its raised contact points provide focused support during brief, comfortable positioning sessions recommended by your healthcare professional.

Buy the Occipivot individually by choosing OCCIPIVOT (Part #1950) above. Other pivots and the set are separate selections; choosing an individual device does not include the entire Pivotal Therapy System.

Why choose this individual support?

A specific contact location. The Occipivot is shaped for contact near the back of the head, where the occipital muscles attach. This helps distinguish it from a general neck cushion or a support intended for the lower back.

Simple passive positioning. The device uses your resting position and body weight. There is no pump, electronic controller, or traction-force setting to operate.

A single-piece purchase. If your practitioner has recommended an Occipivot, you can order that component without buying additional cervical, thoracic, or lumbar supports. Match the product name and reference number to the recommendation before ordering.

Compare the pivotal therapy options.

Each support has its own shape and intended contact area. Choose the component your practitioner recommends rather than assuming every pivot works in the same position.

Common buying and use questions

Is Occipivot 1950 the same product as 00-4502?

Both references identify the Occipivot: 1950 appears in the earlier Magister system instructions, while 00-4502 identifies it in documentation. These numbers do not identify the cervical pivot or the complete set.

What is the difference between Occipivot and cervical pivot?

The Occipivot concentrates contact at the base of the skull. The cervical pivot is a different contour for contact with the neck’s cervical muscles. They are separate components, not size options for one device.

Which side faces up?

Place the flat side down. The contoured side and raised fingertip-style contacts face the user, with the base of the skull resting on the contact points. Follow the supplied instructions and have your practitioner check your positioning if you cannot find a pain-free position.

How long should I use it, and can I sleep on it?

The instructions describe an initial trial of no more than a couple of minutes, followed by gradual increases directed by a healthcare professional. Treat it as a session-based therapy support, not an overnight pillow; the instructions do not establish overnight use. Stop if positioning causes pain.

Is Occipivot a cervical traction device?

It provides passive support and does not display or control traction force. A device such as the Saunders Cervical Home Traction System uses a pump and gauge to apply prescribed force. Do not substitute an Occipivot for prescribed measured traction. Our Saunders setup guide explains the system’s controls and positioning.

Does a pivotal therapy set contain four or five pieces?

Packages differ. The 1955 set described on this page contains four pivots, as listed above. A five-piece package also includes the Standard Thoracic Pivot. Compare the actual component list when shopping; the word “set” alone does not identify its contents.

FAQs

What is the Occipivot Pivotal Therapy Device used for?

The Occipivot is designed to support the occipital region at the base of the skull. It may be used as part of a routine for neck tension, stress-related tightness, headaches, TMJ-related tension, forward head posture, or discomfort around the base of the skull.

How do I use the Occipivot?

Place the Occipivot on the floor, a treatment table, or a bed. Lie back so the muscles at the base of your skull contact the device. Begin with a short, comfortable session in a pain-free position. Increase time gradually only as tolerated.

How long should I use the Occipivot?

A general starting point is 1–2 minutes per day, gradually adding time if comfortable. If symptoms are acute, use only for a few minutes or less. Follow your healthcare practitioner’s instructions.

Can I move my head while using the Occipivot?

Some users may add gentle side-to-side head movement after initial use, but movement should stay within a pain-free range. A healthcare practitioner may recommend flexion, extension, side bending, or rotation.

Is the Occipivot the same as the cervical pivot?

No. The Occipivot focuses on the base of the skull and occipital muscles, while the Cervical Pivot is designed for the cervical muscles of the neck. Both may be used for tension and posture-related concerns, but they contact different regions.

Can the Occipivot help with forward head posture?

The Occipivot may support posture awareness and positioning at the base of the skull. For forward head posture, a healthcare practitioner may also recommend cervical and thoracic support tools, exercises, and strengthening work.
