Norco Stretch Strap for Assisted Stretching & Range of Motion
The Norco® Stretch Strap is a non-elastic stretching aid with 10 sewn grip loops for controlled stretching, assisted range-of-motion work, and repeatable flexibility exercises.
Unlike an exercise band, the strap does not lengthen under tension. Instead, the user selects one of the fixed loops for the hands or feet, making it easier to reproduce a position without wrapping excess strap around the hand or continuously readjusting the buckle.
Choose the 6'4" Standard model (NC84527) for a more compact setup or the 7'5" Long model (NC84528) when additional reach makes the prescribed stretch easier to position. Both versions include an instruction booklet, are machine washable, and are not made with natural rubber latex.

Choose Standard when
The 6'4" standard strap is the simpler starting point when that length allows the user to reach the required loops comfortably. Less unused webbing can make the strap easier to organize in a treatment room, gym bag, or home-exercise kit.
Choose "long" when
Choose the 7'5" long strap when the standard version requires uncomfortable reaching or does not leave enough working length for the intended position. The extra 13 inches can be useful when body dimensions, limb position, or the selected exercise requires more reach.
The key selection question is not which model produces a “better” stretch. It is which length lets the user maintain the prescribed position without straining simply to hold the strap.
Why the 10 grip loops matter
The loop system is what sets the Norco Stretch Strap apart from a plain length of webbing.
| Loop feature | Practical use |
|---|---|
| Multiple hand positions | Select a reachable grip without winding strap around the hand |
| Foot placement | A loop can provide a defined position around the foot during appropriate lower-extremity stretches |
| Repeatable setup | Return to the same loop during subsequent sessions |
| Progress reference | Record which loop was used as one way to document the setup. |
| Assisted exercise | Gives a clinician, trainer or partner several fixed points to hold |
| Reduced need to pinch webbing | The hand can pass through or hold a loop instead of gripping a smooth strap edge |
A stretch strap is not a resistance band
| Norco Stretch Strap | Resistance Bands | Overhead Pulley System | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Construction | Non-stretch webbing | Elastic band or tubing | Cord and pulley |
| Primary function | Stretching and positioning | Resisted exercise | Active-assisted shoulder ROM |
| Force increases as tool stretches | No | Yes | No |
| Fixed hand positions | 10 loops | Usually not. | Handles |
| Body-region focus | Multi-region | Multi-region | Primarily shoulder |
| Typical reason to choose | Need reach or assistance during a stretch | Need progressive muscular resistance | Need one arm to assist shoulder movement |
| Door setup required | No | Exercise-dependent | Yes |
If the goal is strengthening rather than assisted flexibility, browse our resistance bands or use the resistance band & tubing exercise guides for product selection and exercise information. Our Overhead Pulley System is a more shoulder-specific option for active-assisted range-of-motion exercise.
Stretch strap vs. a conventional yoga strap
A conventional yoga strap often relies on the user gripping plain webbing or adjusting a buckle. The Norco design instead provides 10 predetermined loop positions.
That can be particularly useful in rehabilitation and structured home programs because the clinician can describe a specific grip position rather than relying solely on an approximate hand placement.
Neither design creates elastic exercise resistance. The Norco strap's distinguishing feature is therefore repeatable loop positioning, not increased stretching force.
Uses for a non-elastic stretch strap
For gradual stretching, range-of-motion work, flexibility, assisted or unassisted stretching, and isometric applications, a non-elastic stretch strap can be used.
Examples of how a clinician or exercise professional may incorporate a strap include:
- Supine hamstring positioning
- Calf stretching with the strap around the foot
- Selected quadriceps stretches
- Hip mobility positions
- Shoulder mobility exercises
- Foot and ankle range-of-motion work
- Assisted stretching when additional reach is required
The strap does not determine the correct direction, intensity, or duration of a stretch. Those variables depend on the exercise and the individual using it.
What research supports—and what it does not
Research supports stretching itself as a way to increase joint range of motion. A 2024 systematic review and meta-analysis found that repeated stretching programs improve range of motion, while more recent research continues to examine whether those changes primarily reflect stretch tolerance, mechanical changes, or a combination of mechanisms.
The Norco Stretch Strap provides fixed grip points and extra reach that can make selected stretching positions easier to set up and repeat.
Avoid claims that the strap
- Breaks up scar tissue
- Permanently lengthens fascia
- Prevents injury
- Treats a specific diagnosis
- Eliminates muscle soreness
- Corrects joint alignment
- Produces better clinical outcomes than other stretching methods
The strap is an exercise tool; the therapeutic effect depends on the stretching or range-of-motion program in which it is used.
Useful for physical therapy home programs
The strap's low-complexity design makes it suitable for clinician-directed home programs because there are no resistance levels, inflation pressures, or mechanical adjustments to reproduce between visits.
A therapist can document a position using the following:
- Standard or Long model
- Body position
- Target movement
- Selected hand loop
- Selected foot loop when applicable
- Hold time
- Repetition count
- Frequency
Using the same loop is not, by itself, a clinical measurement of range of motion. It can, however, make the exercise setup more repeatable.
For shoulder-specific active-assisted motion where one arm is intended to move the other through a pulley, compare the Balego Overhead Pulley System.
Care and inspection
Before use:
- Inspect the webbing and sewn loops.
- Do not use the strap if stitching is separating or the webbing is significantly frayed.
- ensure the selected loop is fully engaged before applying tension.
- Use controlled rather than bouncing movement.
- Stop if the stretch produces sharp, electrical, or otherwise unexpected pain.
- Follow clinician or surgeon restrictions after an injury or procedure.
Not made with natural rubber latex
North Coast Medical states that the Norco Stretch Strap is not made with natural rubber latex. This wording is preferable to replacing the manufacturer's statement with a broader unsupported claim about every material or manufacturing exposure.

FAQs
How many loops does the Norco Stretch Strap have?
It has 10 multi-position grip loops.
What is the difference between NC84527 and NC84528?
NC84527 is the 6'4" standard purple strap. NC84528 is the "7'5"-long blue strap. Otherwise, both use the same basic 10-loop, non-stretch design.
How much longer is the long model?
The long version is 7'5", compared with 6'4" for standard, a difference of 13 inches.
Does this stretch like an exercise band?
No. It is made from non-stretch webbing. For progressive elastic resistance, use an exercise resistance band instead.
Does it include instructions?
Yes. Includes an instruction booklet for quick reference.
Is it machine washable?
Yes. The strap is machine washable. Follow the supplied care instructions for the current product.
Is it made with natural rubber latex?
It is not made with natural rubber latex.
Is it a resistance-training device?
Not primarily. The strap does not create elastic resistance. Its principal role is stretching, positioning, and range-of-motion work.
Which model should I order?
Choose "Standard" if 6'4" provides enough comfortable working length. Choose Long when additional reach makes the intended stretch easier to set up and reduces excessive reaching.
Can it be used after surgery?
Only as permitted by the treating clinician or surgeon. Postoperative range, loading, and stretching restrictions depend on the procedure and stage of healing.
Use notice: The Norco Stretch Strap is a non-elastic stretching and range-of-motion aid. Select movements, range, intensity and duration according to individual tolerance and professional guidance when applicable. Do not use damaged webbing or loops, and do not use the product as a suspension or load-bearing device.
