Use the labeling and instructions supplied with your IontoPatch shipment to confirm its identity, storage requirements, and any stated use-by date. If a date is missing, a code is unclear or packaging is damaged, set the affected supplies aside and request clarification before use. Do not calculate an expiration date from the purchase date or guess one from a lot number.
This guide covers what to do with the package information after your IontoPatch order arrives. For model numbers, purchasing quantities, and replenishment calculations, use the separate IontoPatch clinic buying and reorder guide.
Lot number, SKU, and expiration date: what is the difference?
These identifiers answer different questions. Recording one does not necessarily preserve the others.
| Package or order detail | What it identifies | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Product name and model | Which IontoPatch version did you receive? | The production batch or remaining shelf life |
| Seller SKU or catalog number | The item used for ordering | A lot-specific use-by date |
| Lot or batch number | A manufacturing batch | An expiration date unless the manufacturer provides a verified interpretation |
| Expiration or use-by date, when supplied | The labeled use limit for the identified item | Permission to use damaged or improperly stored supplies |
| Order or invoice number | The purchase transaction | The identity of every batch within that shipment |
| Device identifier within a UDI | The device version or model and labeler | All variable production information by itself |
The FDA’s UDI explanation distinguishes a device identifier from production identifiers, which can include lot and expiration information. A product barcode should not be treated as a substitute for reviewing the complete label.
Can a database tell me when my box expires?
A public device record does not establish the expiration of your particular shipment. For example, the AccessGUDID entry for IontoPatch STAT identifies a lot/batch production identifier but does not identify an expiration-date production identifier. That describes the record’s UDI fields; it does not establish that your physical package has no separately printed date or that the device lasts indefinitely.
If your inventory system requires an expiration entry that you cannot verify, flag the record for review instead of entering an assumed date.
What should you do when package information is unclear?
Check the carton, any component labels, and the supplied instructions before discarding packaging. Label layouts can differ, so there is no need to assume every code appears in the same corner or on every component.
| What you find | Recommended next step |
|---|---|
| A clear lot and use-by date | Record both exactly as printed and retain their association with the stock. |
| A lot number but no identifiable date | Request clarification using photographs of the complete label. |
| Two dates with different labels | Check whether they refer to manufacture, expiration, or different components; do not select the later date automatically. |
| An ambiguous numeric date | Ask for the intended date format rather than assuming month/day order. |
| A smeared, covered, or unreadable code | Keep the item separate until identity and dating are resolved. |
| Several lots in one delivery | Record each lot separately, even when the model and invoice are the same. |
Do not relabel the manufacturer’s date to make it match a purchase order or inventory-system expectation. Where additional internal labels are needed, keep the original information visible.
How should IontoPatch be stored?
Follow the storage instructions on the current packaging or obtain manufacturer guidance for the exact product. Do not borrow a temperature range from a different iontophoresis patch, a medicated pain patch, or the medication used during treatment.
For a practical clinic storage arrangement:
- Keep supplies in their original protective packaging until needed.
- Retain the carton label or a readable copy linked to the stock location.
- Choose a designated area where the required conditions can be maintained and packages protected from moisture and crushing.
- Keep questionable items physically separate from supplies available for treatment.
- When supplies move between rooms or locations, preserve their model and lot identification.
These are stock-handling recommendations. They do not establish a numerical IontoPatch storage range or override the manufacturer’s instructions.
Should I refrigerate or freeze IontoPatch?
Do not assume cooling will extend shelf life. Follow the patch’s own storage directions and ask for clarification if they are unavailable. A prescribed medication may have different requirements, so its pharmacy label should not become the storage instruction for an unopened patch kit.
What if the shipment was left in a hot vehicle or exposed to freezing weather?
If you suspect exposure outside the labeled conditions, hold the affected supplies and report what is known: the product, lot, exposure circumstances, approximate duration, and any recorded temperature. Ask the supplier or manufacturer for a disposition before using them.
An undamaged appearance alone does not resolve a temperature concern. Equally, a weather report alone does not establish the actual temperature inside a shipment. Preserve the facts rather than making either assumption.
Damaged outer box or damaged product packaging?
A dented shipping carton and a compromised product package are different findings. Photograph the shipping carton and inspect the enclosed retail packaging without opening unused components simply to test them.
| Condition | How to handle the concern |
|---|---|
| Shipping carton dented; enclosed packaging appears intact | Document the condition and check the complete shipment before accepting it into usable stock. |
| Torn or open product packaging | Hold the affected item and request guidance before use. |
| Leaking vial or moisture inside the package | Separate affected supplies and report the condition; do not assume drying restores acceptability. |
| Missing component or uncertain contents | Keep the original packaging and order details available for the supplier’s review. |
| Package appearance differs from a website photo. | Verify the model and label with the supplier; appearance alone does not prove a substitution or counterfeit. |
“Sealed” does not automatically mean “sterile.” The IontoPatch STAT device record lists that device as not packaged sterile and not requiring sterilization before use. Do not describe every IontoPatch component or accessory as sterile merely because it is enclosed. Package condition still matters.
Compare the supplies in your treatment setup separately.
An iontophoresis treatment can involve several products with separate labels. Keep each item’s identity and handling requirements intact.
| Supply | Role | Receiving and storage distinction |
|---|---|---|
| IontoPatch | Self-contained patch supplied with saline for preparation | Preserve patch-kit identification; medication is obtained separately. |
| ACTIVApatch | A different self-contained iontophoresis patch family | Apply its own package instructions; current models do not require saline activation. |
| ChemoBloc / ChemoPlus vial venting and syringe kit | Optional accessory for clinician-directed medication transfer | Retain its own component labels and packaging; an accessory’s date does not extend a patch or medication date. |
| Prescribed medication | The separately supplied active drug | Follow pharmacy/manufacturer labeling, including any applicable after-opening or beyond-use instructions. |
The ChemoBloc kit can be useful when preparing medication from a compatible vial. Confirm the need with the clinical team before adding it, and store unused components according to their own instructions.
Keep lots of information when boxes are split.
If a box is divided among treatment rooms, the original carton should not become the only place staff can find the lot information. As a suggested practice, keep each group of supplies linked to a copy of its original label and record where it went.
Avoid combining loose components from different lots in one unmarked bin. If a supplier later asks about a batch, you should be able to identify the affected stock without assuming every item on the shelf came from the same delivery.
Where a verified use-by date is supplied, arrange eligible stock so the earliest-expiring items are considered first. A newer shipment does not necessarily have a later date. Unclear or held stock should stay outside that rotation until reviewed.
What information helps resolve a packaging or expiration question?
When you contact us, provide:
- The product name, model, and order number.
- A clear photograph of the complete package label, including the lot and any dates.
- The quantity affected and whether other items in the shipment look the same.
- Photographs of package damage, if relevant.
- Known storage or shipping circumstances and when the issue was noticed.
Keep the packaging while the concern is reviewed. Ask for next steps before returning or discarding questioned supplies; reporting an issue does not itself establish return eligibility or a replacement commitment.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use an expired IontoPatch if the package is unopened?
Do not use supplies past a labeled expiration date on the assumption that unopened packaging extends it. Remove them from available treatment stock and obtain replacement supplies through the appropriate process.
How many years does IontoPatch last?
Do not count a fixed number of years from the order date. Confirm the applicable dating and storage requirements from the actual package or manufacturer. Remaining life at receipt is different from any stated shelf life measured from manufacture.
Can I save leftover saline for another treatment?
The manufacturer’s application instructions direct users to discard unused saline after preparation. Do not return an opened remainder to stock as an unopened supply.
Can I fill patches in advance and store them?
Do not apply unopened-device storage assumptions to a patch after medication has been added. Have the treating professional confirm any preparation timing with the current device and medication instructions. Use our IontoPatch application guide for the application workflow.
Where can I order replacement supplies?
Review current options on the IontoPatch product page. If you need a particular amount of remaining shelf life for a planned purchase, ask us to confirm what can be supplied before ordering; do not assume a standard guarantee.
