Cardinal Health ChemoPlus™ Vial Venting Pin and Luer-Lock Syringe Kit
The ChemoBloc / ChemoPlus Vial Venting and Syringe Kit includes one Cardinal Health DP5201V filtered vial-access pin and one needle-free Luer-lock syringe for clinician-directed medication preparation.
The vial-venting pin pierces a compatible medication-vial stopper and provides a secure Luer-lock connection for the syringe. Its built-in 0.22-micron hydrophobic filter helps control vial pressure and reduce aerosolized medication release during withdrawal or reconstitution.
For iontophoresis workflows, the kit may help a trained healthcare professional withdraw the prescribed volume of compatible medication or solution from a vial and transfer it into the reservoir of an IontoPATCH®, ACTIVApatch®, or another compatible drug-delivery system.
Professional-use notice: Medication selection, concentration, volume, polarity, dosing and patch compatibility must be determined by the prescriber and handled according to medication labeling, facility policy and the instructions supplied with every component.
Medication and iontophoresis patches are sold separately.
DP5201V is a sterile, single-use, needleless vial-venting product with a Luer-lock connection and a nonpyrogenic fluid path.

What the filtered vial vent does
| Component feature | Function |
|---|---|
| Piercing cannula | Accesses the vial through its stopper |
| Hydrophobic filter | Allows pressure equalization while helping filter aerosolized droplets |
| Luer-lock port | Provides a threaded connection for a compatible syringe |
| Needleless design | Avoids the use of a conventional sharp needle for withdrawal |
| Sterile fluid path | Supports preparation when packaging and handling remain intact |
| Protective covers | Protect the spike and connection before use |
The filter and needleless design may reduce certain exposure risks, but they do not eliminate the need for proper technique, personal protective equipment, engineering controls, or facility procedures.
Is this a closed-system transfer device?
The DP5201V is a filtered vial-venting device designed to help reduce aerosolization during medication withdrawal. It should not be represented as a complete closed-system drug-transfer device unless the facility has documentation establishing that classification and intended use.

FAQs
What is the ChemoBloc vial venting system?
It is a filtered, needleless vial-access device currently marketed by Cardinal Health as the ChemoPlus vial venting system. The manufacturer number is DP5201V.
What does the kit include?
The listing includes one DP5201V vial-venting pin and one needle-free Luer-lock syringe.
Does the kit include medication?
No.
Does it include an iontophoresis patch?
No. Compare IontoPATCH and ACTIVApatch products separately.
Is the vial vent sterile?
Cardinal Health describes the DP5201V fluid path as sterile and nonpyrogenic. The bundle should not be described as one sterile kit unless both components remain individually packaged and the claim is supported.
Is it reusable?
No. DP5201V is a single-use product.
Is it latex-free?
Cardinal Health states that the vial-venting product is not made with natural rubber latex. Verify the syringe separately.
Is it a closed-system transfer device?
The sources reviewed identify it as a filtered vial-venting system, not as an FDA ONB-classified CSTD. Do not use the terms interchangeably.
Does the filter sterilize medication?
No. The hydrophobic vent filter is part of the air-pressure management system. It does not sterilize the medication or correct contamination caused by improper technique.
Does the system guarantee that medication cannot spill or aerosolize?
No. Cardinal Health says it is designed to help prevent aerosolization. Proper technique and facility controls remain necessary.
How much medication should be withdrawn?
Withdraw the exact amount prescribed by the clinician and specified in the patch instructions. Do not use 1.0 mL as a universal rule.
Can it be used with IontoPATCH 80?
Yes, when the medication, vial, syringe, and facility protocol are compatible.
Can it be used with IontoGo?
Yes. Specifications list a 2.0 cc reservoir for IontoGo 4.0 and IontoGo 12.0.
Can patients use this kit to prepare medication at home?
Prescription medication selection and transfer should follow prescriber, pharmacy, and facility directions.
