Is Trivarion Medium the same as Medium Butterfly?
No. Both have a 2.0 mL fill volume, but they are separate configurations: NC89181B is Medium, and NC89183B is Medium Butterfly. Our product selector identifies the latter as Butterfly.
An order that says only “Trivarion 2 cc” leaves the intended shape unclear. Include the full configuration and item number on the purchase order.
How should a clinic compare electrode shapes?
Ionto4 offers three square options and a butterfly option. Trivarion’s product information emphasizes shapes intended to accommodate uneven treatment sites. Because both families include Butterfly configurations, “square versus butterfly” does not describe the entire comparison.
For a curved or narrow site, have the clinician assess whether the selected electrode can maintain the contact required by its instructions. Consider the space needed by the adhesive border and the return electrode as well as the drug reservoir. A shared fill volume does not establish a shared footprint.
For example, Trivarion Medium and Ionto4 Butterfly both list 2.0 mL. That makes them a volume match on paper, but it does not make them equivalent replacements. Shape, connection, and clinical requirements still need review.
Product photographs can help identify the configuration, but separately photographed items may be displayed at different scales. Use documented dimensions and the actual product when assessing fit. A larger-looking image does not establish a larger active treatment area or better drug delivery.
Can both electrode families be used with ActivaDose II?
Trivarion is specifically listed as compatible with the ActivaDose II iontophoresis controller. Ionto4 instructions specify use with an FDA-cleared, constant-current iontophoresis device.
When changing electrode families, confirm the exact controller, lead set, and electrode requirements together. A connector that appears to fit does not by itself establish an approved combination. What comes in a box, and what is separate?
Our Ionto4 and Trivarion listings each supply 12 single-use treatment kits per box. Each kit pairs an active drug-delivery electrode with a return electrode and includes alcohol skin-prep supplies. This means 12 paired setups, rather than 12 individual electrodes divided into six pairs.
The electrode box does not supply the medication, reusable controller, controller leads, or a separate filling syringe. Confirm those supplies before introducing either product into the clinic.
Keep the active and return electrodes together as the specified kit. Do not assume that a spare return electrode from another brand forms an approved combination. These kits are single-use, including when the same patient returns for another appointment.

Can I put 2.0 mL into Ionto4 Medium to match Trivarion Medium?
Do not change the filling procedure to make two different reservoirs appear equivalent. Ionto4 Medium lists 2.5 mL. Have the clinician reconcile the prescribed solution and electrode requirements before selecting a replacement; follow the instructions supplied with that exact kit. Does Ionto4 Large provide a stronger treatment than Trivarion Large?
A 4.0 mL reservoir is larger in listed fill volume than a 3.5 mL reservoir. That difference alone does not establish a higher electrical dose, more medication delivered into tissue, or a better clinical result. The prescribed solution, electrical settings, and electrode requirements must be assessed separately.
Does “no additional hydrogel” mean Trivarion arrives filled with medication?
No. The description refers to its electrode design; it does not mean that medication is included. The drug matrix still requires the prescribed solution and the filling procedure specified in the product instructions.
