Chattanooga Continuum TENS/NMES Stimulator
Two package choices. Leads, batteries, and electrodes are included in both.
Choose the Chattanooga Continuum package that matches your equipment needs. Our Device Package is not a bare stimulator: it includes two sets of lead wires, four AA batteries, and one package of electrodes. Our Complete Package includes all of those items plus a hand switch and a soft-sided carrying case.
Both packages contain the same Continuum device. The difference is the included accessories, not the stimulation capabilities.
Compare our two Continuum packages.

Quantity 1 means one selected package, not both packages or two stimulators. Review the selected package's current price and availability beside the buying controls.
We provide free standard U.S. shipping with no minimum purchase. Applicable tax is additional. Prescription required for either package.
Device Package: the device and starting supplies
Choose this package when you do not need to purchase the hand switch or soft case. The lead wires, AA batteries, and electrode package are already included, so these starting supplies do not need to be added as separate purchases.
This is also an option when replacing a device and you already have appropriate accessories. Confirm the compatibility of any accessories you plan to reuse. Your clinician may require a different electrode size, additional consumables, or a switch for a particular program.
Complete Package: add the hand switch and soft case.
Choose this package when you need the hand switch for a clinician-configured program and want a soft-sided case for storage and transport. It provides every item in our device package, together with those two additions, in one order.
The hand switch is a wired stimulation trigger, not a wireless remote or a second stimulator. Use it with the appropriate program and professional instructions. Buying the Complete Package does not add extra treatment modes to the device.
What makes the Continuum different?
The Continuum combines TENS and NMES with 1+1 channel control. Its two channels can run the same program or different programs simultaneously. That is more than separate intensity adjustment: it allows a clinician to configure distinct channel programs when the treatment plan calls for them.
Continuum capability checklist
| Capability | What to check before buying |
|---|---|
| TENS and NMES in one device | Confirm the required modality and program; this is not an IFC or Russian-stimulation unit. |
| Two independently managed channels | Check whether you need different programs rather than only separate intensity levels. |
| 13 preset and 2 custom regimens | Have the clinician select and configure the appropriate regimen; presets are not individualized prescriptions. |
| Adjustable waveform and timing parameters | Match the complete program, not just the model name or number of presets. |
| Replaceable AA power, belt clip, and kickstand | Plan for the intended treatment position and practical handling. |
For detailed settings and operation, use our Chattanooga Continuum manual and troubleshooting guide. For the broader modality distinction, see our TENS versus NMES guide.
Compare complete offers, not just device prices.
A listing called "device only" may have a different packing list from our device package. Compare the device, lead-wire sets, battery quantity, and electrodes before comparing the delivered cost. For a switch-equipped package, also check the hand switch and carrying case.
Our package table states what is included, so you can choose without assuming that a photograph shows everything you will receive. We do not treat the hand switch as a required extra purchase when you select our Complete Package.
Chattanooga Continuum package FAQs
Does our device-only option really include leads, batteries, and electrodes?
Yes. Our Device Package includes two sets of lead wires, four AA batteries, and one package of electrodes with the Continuum. It excludes the hand switch and soft-sided carrying case supplied in our Complete Package.
Does the Complete Package use a different or more powerful device?
No. The same Continuum device is supplied in both. The Complete Package adds the hand switch and soft-sided case; it does not unlock additional programs or increase device output.
Why are four AA batteries included when the device uses two?
The Continuum operates on two AA batteries. Each of our packages supplies four, giving you one pair for operation and another pair as replacements. This is a battery quantity, not a promise of treatment runtime. Follow the supplied instructions for battery use.
Is the hand switch included with every Continuum purchase?
Not with both of our options. It is included in the Complete Package and not in the Device Package. We also offer the Continuum hand switch separately for an approved upgrade or replacement. Confirm the required program and accessory before ordering.
Does the Complete Package include the heel or foot switch?
No. The Continuum heel/foot switch is a separate accessory. Have your clinician determine whether it is appropriate for the intended functional-stimulation program. A hand switch and a heel switch are not interchangeable package descriptions.
Can I order either package without a prescription?
The Continuum is prescription equipment. Contact our team with the product, selected package, and your order number, if available, to request submission instructions. Keep prescriptions and medical history out of the general contact form. Follow our prescription-submission policy, then confirm document receipt and shipping status separately.
Is this the correct replacement for an older EMPI Continuum?
Compare the required programs and accessory connections before replacing an older device. Our Chattanooga versus EMPI Continuum guide explains why a similar name does not establish a feature-for-feature replacement. The package you choose determines the accessories received, not compatibility with every legacy component.
Replacement supplies and ongoing support
For additional pads, review our Balego TENS/NMES electrodes and match the connector and clinician-approved size. We also list Continuum-specific lead wires; check the part reference and replacement selling quantity before ordering. A matching electrode pin alone does not establish that a generic cable fits the device.
Read the supplied instructions and use the device under the direction of the treating professional. The included supplies do not replace diagnosis, programming, or training. Stop treatment and seek advice for burning, sharp pain, or a significant skin reaction.
Choose the Device Package for the Continuum with leads, batteries, and electrodes. Choose Complete Package to receive the same supplies plus the hand switch and soft-sided case.

FAQs
What is the Chattanooga Continuum?
It is a portable prescription electrotherapy device combining TENS, NMES, and switch-triggered functional muscle stimulation in a two-channel system.
How many channels does the Continuum have?
It has two independently controlled channels.
Can the channels run different programs?
Yes. Chattanooga’s 1+1 function allows the same program on both channels or two different programs simultaneously.
Can it provide TENS and NMES at the same time?
The independent channel design permits different clinician-selected regimens to operate simultaneously. Chattanooga specifically promotes combining TENS and NMES to support pain management alongside exercise.
How many programs are included?
The current manufacturer specifications list 13 preset regimens and two custom regimens.
Does it have two or three custom programs?
The current Chattanooga has two custom regimens.
Is the Continuum rechargeable?
No. It operates on two AA batteries.
Can rechargeable AA batteries be used?
Use only the battery type permitted by the current user manual. Do not mix battery types or old and new cells.
Is the hand switch included?
Yes. Part 2630 is listed in the official 2600-KIT contents.
Does the Chattanooga Continuum provide Russian stimulation? Which unit is best for quadriceps Russian stimulation with a 5:1 cycle, and what electrode size should I use on the thigh?
The Chattanooga Continuum does not provide true Russian stimulation. The Continuum provides TENS and NMES, including programmable NMES for larger muscle groups like the quadriceps, but it does not produce the traditional 2,500 Hz burst-modulated Russian waveform. Some of Chattanooga’s larger professional clinic systems do include Russian stimulation, which likely explains why your physical therapist’s Chattanooga office unit can provide it.
If your therapist specifically wants you to continue with Russian stimulation for the quadriceps, our best portable choice is the InTENSity Select Combo II DI2195. It has a dedicated RUSS (Russian stimulation) mode using a 2,500 Hz carrier and provides two independently adjustable output channels.
The Select Combo II also has a customizable U1 Russian program that lets you adjust the contraction time, relaxation time, and ramp time. This is particularly useful when trying to reproduce a physical therapist’s quadriceps-strengthening protocol.
If by a “5:1 cycle” your therapist means five parts rest for every one part contraction—for example, a 10-second contraction followed by 50 seconds of relaxation—the Select Combo II can accommodate that timing. Its custom Russian program allows approximately 5–30 seconds of contraction and 5–60 seconds of relaxation, along with adjustable ramp timing.
Because different clinical stimulators sometimes describe a “5:1” ratio in opposite ways, we recommend asking your therapist to write down the exact contraction time, relaxation time, ramp time, and, if applicable, burst frequency used on the Chattanooga office unit. You can then match those values as closely as possible on the portable unit instead of relying on the “5:1” description alone.
For quadriceps or thigh stimulation, we generally recommend a larger rectangular electrode rather than a small pad. A 2" × 4" rectangular electrode is an excellent starting size for an adult thigh because the larger surface area distributes the stimulation over a broader area and can be more comfortable when a strong muscle contraction is required. Our Starburst Electrodes are specifically well suited to larger muscle groups such as the thigh. We also offer several other sizes through our TENS/NMES/FES electrode selection
The Select Combo II includes four 2" × 2" electrodes, and those may also be appropriate if that is the size and placement your therapist prefers. Each active channel requires two electrodes, so a two-channel quadriceps setup can use four electrodes when prescribed. Electrode position is just as important as electrode size, so we recommend having your physical therapist show you the exact quadriceps/motor-point placement used during your successful clinic treatment.
If your therapist does not require the Russian waveform specifically, the Chattanooga Continuum can still produce strong, programmable quadriceps contractions using NMES. However, conventional NMES and Russian stimulation are different waveforms, so the continuum should not be described as providing Russian current.
Is the heel switch included?
No. Part 2645 is an optional accessory sold separately.
What is the heel switch used for?
It can trigger muscle stimulation from inside the shoe during clinician-directed gait and drop-foot rehabilitation.
Does the kit include electrodes?
The current official Chattanooga kit-content list does not identify electrodes. Balego should confirm its present carton configuration before promising that pads are included.
Does the kit include batteries?
Two AA batteries are required, but they are not named in the current official kit content list. Confirm the Balego carton before publication.
What kind of electrode connection does it use?
The kit includes a set of pin cables. Replacement electrode sockets must match those pins.
Is the Continuum FDA-approved?
The accurate term is FDA 510(k) cleared. The current Chattanooga Continuum listing references K093324.
Is Chattanooga Continuum the same as Empi Continuum?
FDA’s current listing connects the Chattanooga Continuum to K093324, which was originally cleared under the Empi Continuum name. The current product is sold under the Chattanooga brand.
Where is the Continuum made?
The official Chattanooga product sheet states that it is designed and assembled in the USA.
Can it be used at home?
Yes, when it has been prescribed, programmed, and explained by a qualified healthcare professional.
Does the Continuum provide IFC or Russian stimulation?
No. The current Chattanooga product is marketed as a TENS and NMES system. Consider the InTENSity Select Combo II when IFC and Russian stimulation are also required.
