Parker Laboratories Protex® Ultra Disinfectant Wipes are ready-to-use, premoistened disinfecting wipes for compatible hard, non-porous surfaces in healthcare, rehabilitation, and institutional environments.

Unlike bulk disinfectant spray, Protex Ultra provides a premeasured disposable wipe with no spray mist or refill bottle to manage. Parker offers three formats so facilities can choose between a compact mobile soft pack, a larger wipe for broader surfaces, or a rigid point-of-care canister.

Protex Ultra is alcohol-free, bleach-free, and solvent-free, and Parker identifies ultrasound transducers and equipment among its compatible hard, non-porous applications.

Which Protex Ultra Wipes Should I Choose?

48-40: Compact 60-Count STAY PUT Softpack

Parker REF 48-40 contains 60 wipes measuring approximately 6.5 × 6 inches.

Its distinguishing feature is Parker's STAY PUT adhesive backing, which allows the softpack to adhere to compatible mobile equipment for convenient one-handed dispensing.

That makes 48-40 particularly useful on:

• ultrasound carts;
• mobile electrotherapy equipment;
• treatment-room workstations;
• rehabilitation carts; and
• other locations where a rigid canister takes up unnecessary space.

Parker packages 48-40 as 12 softpacks per box and 24 softpacks per full manufacturer case.

48-72: Larger 7 × 10-Inch Wipes

Parker REF 48-72 contains 80 wipes measuring approximately 7 × 10 inches.

This is the largest individual wipe in the current Protex Ultra family.

The larger surface area can be useful when wiping treatment tables, equipment housings, and other compatible surfaces where the smaller 48-40 wipe may require more than one sheet.

Parker packages 48-72 as 12 softpacks per case.

48-70: 75-Count Canister

Parker REF 48-70 contains 75 textured wipes measuring approximately 7 × 9.5 inches in a rigid manual-pull canister.

Choose 48-70 when a permanent dispensing location is more useful than the compact softpack format.

Typical locations include treatment rooms, rehabilitation gyms, ultrasound rooms, and equipment-cleaning stations.

Parker packages eight canisters per manufacturer case.

15 Seconds vs. 4 Minutes: What Is the Difference?

This is one of the most important details on the product.

“Kills 99.9% of bacteria in 15 seconds” does not mean the complete disinfection procedure takes 15 seconds.

Parker's current EPA-approved label distinguishes between a rapid sanitization claim and the full disinfection/virucidal procedure.

For routine full disinfection, wipe the hard, non-porous surface until it is visibly wet, allow it to remain wet for 4 minutes, and then permit it to air dry.

If the surface is visibly dirty, clean it first with another wipe before beginning the disinfection step.

This distinction matters because a quick wipe-and-immediate-dry workflow does not reproduce the labeled four-minute disinfection procedure.

Protex Ultra Wipes vs. Protex Disinfectant Spray

Both products are part of Parker's clinical surface-disinfection line, but they solve different workflow problems.

Do not assume that the spray and wipes have identical label directions simply because both carry the Protex name. Follow the current label for the exact product being used.

Can Protex Ultra Wipes Be Used on Ultrasound Transducers?

Parker specifically includes ultrasound transducers and ultrasound equipment among the hard, non-porous medical-device surfaces listed on the current label.

That does not mean Protex Ultra replaces every probe-reprocessing process.

Use Protex Ultra only when:

• The ultrasound-equipment manufacturer permits the disinfectant
• the surface material is compatible; and
• Low-level surface disinfection is appropriate for the probe or equipment being cleaned.

A probe or device requiring high-level disinfection or sterilization must still be reprocessed according to its manufacturer's instructions and applicable clinical protocol.

Protex Ultra Is Not a High-Level Disinfectant

The current EPA labeling states that Protex Ultra should not be used as the terminal sterilant or high-level disinfectant for critical or semi-critical medical devices.

This distinction is especially important for ultrasound probes because reprocessing requirements depend on how and where a transducer is used.

Surface Compatibility

The current Parker label identifies compatible hard, non-porous surfaces, including:

• metal;
• stainless steel;
• many plastics;
• acrylic;
• sealed fiberglass;
• vinyl;
• finished woodwork; and
• compatible non-critical medical-equipment surfaces.

For plastic and painted surfaces, Parker instructs users to spot-test an inconspicuous area before routine use.

The equipment manufacturer's own cleaning instructions should always take precedence when they are more restrictive.

Protex Ultra and Ultrasound Gel Cleanup

Remove visible ultrasound coupling medium according to the ultrasound device instructions before completing the required cleaning and disinfection procedure.

Can Protex Ultra Wipes Be Used on Skin?

No.

Protex Ultra is a surface disinfectant, not a personal cleansing wipe.

Do not use it for hand cleaning, skin cleansing, or as a baby wipe.

Disposal

After use, place the wipe in the trash.

Do not flush used Protex Ultra wipes down the toilet.

The soft packs and canisters are nonrefillable packages and should be discarded or recycled according to the product labeling and applicable local requirements.

Do Protex Ultra wipes kill SARS-CoV-2?

Yes. SARS-CoV-2 is included on Parker's current label, with the four-minute disinfection procedure.

Are Protex Ultra wipes alcohol-free?

Yes. Parker describes the formula as alcohol-, bleach-, and solvent-free.

Are these wipes safe for ultrasound equipment?

Parker specifically lists ultrasound transducers and equipment among compatible applications. Always verify the particular device manufacturer's approved cleaning and disinfecting agents before use.

Can Protex Ultra be used for endocavity probes?

Do not assume that low-level surface disinfection is adequate for an endocavity probe. Devices classified as semi-critical may require high-level disinfection according to the transducer manufacturer's instructions and facility protocol.

Can I use the wipes on a treatment table?

Parker identifies vinyl and other compatible hard, non-porous surfaces among intended applications. Verify the table manufacturer's cleaning recommendations, particularly for specialty upholstery coatings.

Do the wipes contain bleach?

No.

Should I wipe the surface dry immediately?

Not when performing the labeled full disinfection procedure. The surface must remain visibly wet for 4 minutes and then be allowed to air dry.

Can used Protex Ultra wipes be flushed?

No. Parker instructs users to discard used wipes in the trash and not flush them down the toilet.

Are the softpacks refillable?

How long is the shelf life?
