A card of diagnostic ECG tabs is not necessarily a separately sealed package. Several cards can share one pouch, so removing a single card may expose the rest of that pouch’s contents to the same opened-package conditions.
For example, Cardinal Health’s Kendall 5400 data sheet describes ten electrodes per card and ten cards per pouch. That is 100 electrodes inside one pouch—not ten individually sealed supplies.

Keep additional pouches sealed, dispense only what the current procedure requires, and use the storage directions for the exact product supplied. What is the difference between an electrode, a card, and a pouch?

These distinctions matter when a listing uses the word “pack.” Confirm whether it means a card, a pouch, or a larger selling quantity before interpreting the handling instructions.
What happens if we take one card from a 100-electrode pouch?
In the documented 5400 configuration, removing one ten-electrode card leaves nine cards containing 90 electrodes. Those remaining tabs are unused, but they have shared the pouch-opening event. Removing a later card does not give that card a new opening date.
The separate pouches still sealed inside the box are a different situation. Opening the outer carton does not itself break their individual pouch seals.

The Kendall catalog statements are performance information, not complete handling instructions. The actual supplied label and instructions remain the reference for storage conditions and use. None of these unused-stock statements describes how long a diagnostic tab may remain on a patient.

How should staff open and dispense diagnostic ECG tabs?
Use the following as a dispensing routine alongside the product instructions and your facility’s handling procedure:
- Read the pouch before opening it. Confirm the model, package condition, and printed use-by date. Keep the identification readable when opening the package.
- Open the pouch needed for the procedure. Leave reserve pouches sealed. Avoid opening several simply to fill a drawer with loose cards.
- Remove the needed card or quantity. Keep the remaining tabs on their original liners. Peel each electrode for application when needed rather than preparing a batch of exposed adhesive surfaces.
- Protect the unused contents promptly. Follow the package’s instructions for retaining and closing the opened supply. Do not assume every pouch uses the same closure method.
A ready-to-use supply drawer can hold intact packages. Pre-peeling tabs is not necessary to make the stock easy to reach.

Can unused cards be moved into a plastic bag or organizer?
We recommend using organizers to hold identifiable original packages. Do not assume that a household bag or a drawer compartment provides the storage protection required by the electrode .
Red Dot 2330’s instructions specifically retain unused electrodes in their opened pouch. For Kendall tabs, follow the supplied packaging directions before choosing an alternative container. Keep the original product identification with any supply moved between approved storage locations.
The distinction is practical: moving an intact pouch preserves its identity, while pouring loose cards into a shared bin makes it harder to establish which model, lot, and opening history apply. Repacking does not create a new storage allowance.
Use the temperature and environmental limits on the product labeling. “Room temperature,” refrigeration, or a sealed drawer should not be substituted for an actual requirement.
What if a tab looks dry, damaged, or different from the usual supply?

A branding change is a separate question. Solventum states that the Red Dot 2300 Series is transitioning from 3M to Solventum branding. Verify the catalog number, supplied instructions, and package details when artwork changes; appearance alone does not establish the product’s identity or authenticity.
Does buying a larger quantity mean opening more electrodes at once?
Not necessarily. A larger order may contain more sealed pouches rather than more electrodes inside each pouch. Ask for the electrodes per sealed pouch separately from the total electrode count in the order.
