IontoPatch vs. ACTIVApatch: Compare Models Before You Order

The useful difference between IontoPatch and ACTIVApatch is the exact model, not the brand name alone. Compare electrical-dose specifications, stated treatment periods, preparation, and feedback before matching a clinician-approved choice to the correct box.

We carry IontoPatch STAT, 80, and Extra Strength and ACTIVApatch IntelliDose 2.5, IontoGo 4.0, and IontoGo 12.0. This guide brings their documented differences together without treating them as interchangeable prescriptions.

Before you order

We supply the delivery device. The prescribed medication and treatment directions must be arranged separately.

A search for a “dexamethasone patch” does not mean that these boxes contain dexamethasone. For the detailed included-versus-separate supply check, use our existing first-order IontoPatch guide.

This is a comparison of published specifications and ordering information, not a hands-on clinical trial. Follow the current instructions supplied with the exact patch and the treating professional's directions. Links open in a new tab or window.

IontoPatch vs. ACTIVApatch at a glance

Read the electrical rating and time together. mA·min describes electrical charge, not milligrams of medication. The timing below is the manufacturer's stated average or approximate period, not a promise that every patient will receive the same amount of medication in that time.

Scroll the table sideways to see every comparison column.

ModelElectrical-dose specificationStated average treatment periodStatus and completion design
IontoPatch STAT80 mA·minAbout 4 hoursNo LED; capacity-limited electrode design.
IontoPatch 8080 mA·minAbout 14 hoursNo LED; capacity-limited electrode design.
IontoPatch Extra Strength120 mA·minAbout 8 hoursNo LED; capacity-limited electrode design.
ACTIVApatch IntelliDose 2.540 or 80 mA·minAbout 1.25 hours for 40; 2.5 hours for 80SmartPower LED: staged feedback and automatic shutoff after 80 mA·min.
ACTIVApatch IontoGo 4.080 mA·minAbout 4 hoursSHUNT completion technology; no SmartPower LED.
ACTIVApatch IontoGo 12.080 mA·minAbout 12 hoursSHUNT completion technology; no SmartPower LED.

The IontoPatch operating principle uses electrode coatings that are consumed during operation. ACTIVApatch's SHUNT completion feature is different from IntelliDose SmartPower LED feedback. Automatic treatment termination and a visible status signal are not the same feature.

Confirm the instructed removal time rather than extending wear to try to increase delivery. Our IontoPatch wear-time guide addresses that question separately; IntelliDose and IontoGo must follow their own instructions.

What equal electrical-dose numbers do not establish

STAT, IontoPatch 80, and both IontoGo models share an 80 mA·min specification. That does not prove identical absorbed medication quantities, equal tissue concentrations, or interchangeable treatment plans. Different medication formulations, reservoir preparation, skin conditions, and current-time profiles must still be considered. The technical overview explains why skin resistance and delivery rate vary.

Likewise, a 2.0 mL reservoir is not proof that a patient absorbs twice as much medication as from a 1.0 mL reservoir. Do not add patches, change concentrations, or trade an 80 mA·min model for Extra Strength to “make the numbers match.” A proposed change needs the treating professional's approval.

Which differences matter in the closest comparisons?

IontoPatch STAT vs. ACTIVApatch IontoGo 4.0

Both are listed at 80 mA·min with about a four-hour period. The differences to review are preparation, the 1.0 mL versus 2.0 mL filling specification, medication compatibility, and completion technology. Matching the headline time is only the start of the comparison.

IontoPatch 80 vs. ACTIVApatch IontoGo 12.0

These are the longer-period 80 mA·min options here: approximately 14 hours and 12 hours, respectively. Consider the approved delivery profile and the ability to maintain the instructed contact and wear conditions. Neither the shorter nor the longer period establishes better skin tolerance. For a comparison entirely within ACTIVApatch, see our IontoGo 4.0 vs. 12.0 guide.

Where IntelliDose 2.5 and Extra Strength differ

IntelliDose provides visible treatment-stage feedback. Its instructions describe a first 40 mA·min stage and a second stage reaching 80 mA·min. The prescribed stopping point matters; this is not an unrestricted dose dial or permission to divide one patch between treatments.

Extra Strength has a 120 mA·min specification. It is not a stronger medication formulation, and none of the three ACTIVA patch models in this table is labeled as a 120 mA·min device. Select it because it is the prescribed model, not because a larger number sounds preferable.

Preparation is a real cross-brand difference.

A supply change can change the preparation instructions. Do not carry the old brand's cleaning method or fluid volume into the new setup.

Preparation questionIontoPatch STAT, 80, and Extra StrengthACTIVApatch models
Skin preparationSoap and water, followed by thorough drying; do not use an alcohol wipe.IntelliDose 2.5 and IontoGo 4.0 instructions specify alcohol, then drying. IontoGo 12.0 includes alcohol wipes; follow its supplied preparation instructions.
Medication-reservoir fillSTAT: 1.0 mL; 80: 1.3 mL; Extra Strength: 1.0 mL, as listed in the model sources above. All three models list 2.0 cc (2.0 mL). This is a filling specification, not the quantity absorbed.
Separate saline stepSaline is added to the opposite chamber as directed. The hydrogel return electrode does not require added saline. Medication still has to be supplied and loaded.

Medication polarity also requires verification. IntelliDose 2.5 specifies negatively charged ionic solutions, while IontoPatch has positive and negative chambers. Neither statement approves every drug or formulation. Confirm compatibility against the prescription and the exact model's current instructions.

Use our IontoPatch preparation and application guide for its full procedure. For IntelliDose's flash sequences, use the existing SmartPower LED guide.

Compare the exact box and current selected-model price.

Each option below is sold in a six-kit box. A quantity of one is one box, not one patch. Match the complete model name and SKU before comparing the price or placing an order.

Price snapshots checked October 3, 2026: IontoPatch 80, D-0077-080, $36.52 per box; IontoGo 12.0, NC89191, $49.95 per box. These are not prices for every model in either family. Other rows link to the product selector rather than displaying an unconfirmed price. Prices and availability may change; confirm the selected option and final order total.

The two illustrated prices work out to approximately $6.09 and $8.33 per device before any applicable order adjustments. That is a supply-price comparison, not a total treatment-cost or clinical-value comparison. Medication, professional services, and the prescribed treatment plan are separate. Our IontoPatch cost and quantity-order guide covers the broader calculation.

The price first shown on a multi-model page may belong to a different option. Select the named model, confirm the SKU, and then check the displayed amount. A lower price should not decide an unapproved substitution.

How should performance claims influence the purchase?

Head-to-head electrical-output and timing evaluations of selected ACTIVApatch and IontoPatch products. Its described test arrangement uses plates, a resistor, and a hydrated material, with current and voltage measurements. These are product-performance evaluations, not direct measurements of absorbed medication or patient pain relief.

IontoPatch also publishes electrode-capacity testing under a different setup. Results from different methods should not be combined into a single clinical ranking. A useful purchasing review asks what was measured, which exact model was tested, and whether that evidence answers the clinic's actual question. We do not claim a universal clinical winner from these documents.

Before switching brands, settle the clinical choice and the order separately.

Clinical confirmation: establish the medication and formulation, applicable polarity, prescribed electrical specification, exact patch, treatment site, preparation, and removal instructions. A change in adhesive, timing, reservoir, or status feedback may require new patient instructions even when the electrical rating matches.

Order confirmation: verify the model and SKU, number of boxes, selected-model price, complete-order availability, and needed arrival date. Keep different models on separate order lines. Retain the package identification so a repeat purchase does not depend on remembering a color or a number such as “80.”

Patient handoff: explain which status signals exist on that model, when to remove it, and whom to contact if it lifts, leaks, or causes discomfort. The IntelliDose safety instructions warn about irritation and burns and require removal and reporting of burning or discomfort. Automatic shutoff is not permission to ignore symptoms or exceed the instructed wear period.

We can help confirm the product and order details. For an inquiry, contact our team with the requested SKU, box quantity, destination, and required date. Have the treating professional approve any substitution before we help identify the corresponding order option.

Common comparison questions

Is IontoPatch or ACTIVApatch supplied with dexamethasone?

No. Our listings are for delivery devices, not prefilled dexamethasone patches. Arrange the prescribed medication and treatment directions separately. Our first-order article explains what comes with IontoPatch and what must be supplied separately.

Can I replace an 80 mA·min patch with any other 80 mA·min patch?

Not automatically. The shared electrical specification does not establish equivalent drug absorption or clinical interchangeability. The clinician needs to review the medication, model-specific preparation, and treatment profile before approving a change.

Does ACTIVApatch always have an indicator light?

No. The manufacturer's comparison identifies SmartPower LED feedback on IntelliDose 2.5, not on IontoGo 4.0 or 12.0. A shutoff feature should not be mistaken for a visible completion display.

Does a no-saline patch eliminate medication preparation?

No. It removes a separate saline-filling step, not the need to supply and load the approved medication, prepare the skin correctly, and follow the patch instructions.
