Some separate EMPI Select electrode pads may be usable with our Balego BAL805 NMES, but the original EMPI Select lead wires should not be transferred to the BAL805. Use the lead set specified for the receiving device. Before carrying over pads, confirm their exact connection, intended stimulation use, permitted size, and condition.
This guide is for people moving from an EMPI Select TENS unit to our Balego EMS Digital NMES Stimulator BAL805 or maintaining both systems. It distinguishes the adhesive electrode, its short attached wire, and the separate device cable so you can identify what actually needs replacing.
A matching pad pin is only one compatibility check. It does not prove that the cable fits the new device, that the electrode is appropriate for the intended NMES program, or that the old TENS placement and settings should be copied.

Separate the two connections before comparing accessories.
An electrode's pigtail is the short wire attached to the sticky pad. The lead assembly is the longer cable between the device and an electrode pair. A cable can connect to the pad correctly while being wrong for the stimulator.
Our WW3005 45-inch lead-wire pair is listed with a shielded right-angle 2.35 mm device plug and two 2 mm electrode pins per cable. Our Balego TENS/NMES/FES pads have female pigtail sockets for compatible 2 mm pins. The 2 mm description therefore concerns the pad connection, not a universal device socket.
The EMPI Select manufacturer manual, precautions on page 11, specifies a custom safety connection and manufacturer-supplied leads and electrodes. It also addresses the electrode active area. Neither a similar-looking plug nor a connector diameter alone overrides those instructions.

Which EMPI lead is documented for Select?
The archived EMPI Electrotherapy Accessory Guide, revision J from June 2011, lists 193057-100 as a red/black 40-inch touchproof lead for Select, 300PV, and EPIX VT, packaged one per pack. This is a manufacturer-published legacy reference, not merely a retailer's general compatibility claim.
Our EMPI 40-inch lead-wire listing, SKU 193057-100, is the product to compare when maintaining a Select. Match the supplied replacement's labeling and connector to the documented reference and your actual device. The historical listing does not certify an unidentified cable, every third-party equivalent, or compatibility with BAL805.
Select and Respond Select different model names. Read the complete label rather than assuming that a description containing the word Select Identifies your device. No EMPI-family name should be treated as approval for every EMPI port.
Check the pads before reusing them with BAL805.
Confirm the exact electrode, not just the old device.
Look for the manufacturer, electrode reference, dimensions, and instructions on the packet. The fact that a pad was used with Select tells you about its previous setup; it does not identify every requirement of the new one. A statement covering TENS or NMES is relevant but does not replace the receiving device's accessory requirements.

Check the actual contact area and connection.
A socket should accept the specified pin fully and securely without alteration. A snap, clip, or integrated connector is not a pigtail socket. Do not cut an electrode, enlarge a socket, or tape a loose connection together to make a mismatch appear usable.
Check the requested size and the conductive contact area, not just the outer backing. Our replacement-electrode size options include different shapes; equal-looking widths do not necessarily mean equal areas. A smaller pad is not automatically appropriate because it attaches to the lead.
Separate compatibility from condition.
A correctly specified pad can still be worn out. Do not transfer dried, contaminated, damaged, or poorly adhering electrodes to a different unit in the hope that it will restore them. Old unopened stock also needs a package, expiration, and storage check rather than approval from appearance alone.
The Balego NMES instruction booklet identifies reusable adhesive electrodes as single-patient supplies and directs replacement when adhesion is lost. Moving a suitable electrode between one person's approved setups is a different question from sharing it with another person. Keep used pads assigned to their original user.

Two electrode pins do not mean two lead wires. One complete cable serves an electrode pair. The WW3005 pack contains two cables; our 193057-100 listing is sold individually. Compare the number of complete assemblies rather than the number of branches visible in a photograph.
The current BAL805 kit already provides its starter leads and electrodes. You do not need an extra cable pack merely because your old EMPI leads cannot transfer. Do not carry a TENS treatment over as an NMES program.
EMPI Select is a TENS device; BAL805 is a dedicated EMS/NMES device. A compatible electrode does not make those programs interchangeable, and a familiar intensity number is not a conversion between them.
Before moving to BAL805 for rehabilitation, confirm the intended muscle response, pad locations, timing, and settings with the treating professional. Stop before investigating an unfamiliar connection.
Switch the device fully off before connecting, disconnecting, or moving electrodes. On BAL805, both channel knobs must be OFF. Do not flex a cable while current is running, raise intensity to test a suspected mismatch, or force a plug that does not seat normally.
Burning, painful stimulation, a loose pin, or damaged insulation is a reason to stop, not proof that you need a stronger device. Follow the appropriate manual for equipment checks. Persistent symptoms, burns, or skin injury need clinical advice; unresolved hardware concerns need product support. For an identification request, contact our product-support team with the exact device model, pad packet reference, and photographs of the disconnected cable's two ends. A packet and connector photo are more useful than a picture showing only the adhesive surface. Keep medical records and identify patient information out of product photographs.
Frequently asked compatibility questions
Can every EMPI-branded pad be used with Balego NMES?
No. EMPI supplied multiple electrode and accessory formats. A separate compatible pin-connected pad may be a candidate, but its model, approved use, size, condition, and receiving-device requirements still need checking. A brand name alone is not a compatibility specification.
Can I use an adapter instead of changing the EMPI cable?
Do not improvise an adapter to connect the EMPI device cable to BAL805. An adapter that changes a pad-side connection does not establish a permitted device-side combination. Use the cable designated for the receiving unit.
Do I have to replace pads and leads together?
Not automatically. An unsuitable device plug calls for the correct lead; a worn or unsuitable pad calls for an appropriate electrode. Replacing both without identifying the problem can add cost without resolving the actual issue. Keep any uncertain or damaged item out of use.
Can the same pad be connected to both devices at once?
Do not connect a shared electrode or cable assembly to both devices. This guide concerns separate, approved setups used in turn, not joining two stimulators or creating a combined treatment circuit.
Does keeping four old pads mean I have a complete BAL805 setup?
No. You still need the correct BAL805 leads and an appropriate treatment plan. Four pads are not a substitute for two complete cables. Check our BAL805 setup instructions before assembling a replacement system.
What should I order when I cannot identify my old pad?
