About Core Adjust-A-Loft Adjustable Fiber Pillow for Side, Back & Stomach Sleepers
The Core Products Adjust-A-Loft™ Adjustable Comfort Pillow takes a different approach from a fixed-height bed pillow: instead of choosing one loft and hoping it fits, you can remove or return polyester cluster fiber to change the pillow's height and feel.
That makes the Adjust-A-Loft particularly useful for sleepers whose preferred pillow thickness changes with sleeping position. Side sleepers generally need more loft, stomach sleepers generally use a flatter setup, and back sleepers fall between those extremes. The pillow arrives intentionally full so you can reduce the amount of fiber rather than starting with a pillow that cannot be made taller.
We offer the pillow with or without an optional cooling memory-foam layer, so there are two separate decisions: First choose the fiber loft that fits your sleeping position, then decide whether you want the additional foam layer.

FIB-254 vs. FIB-255: Which Adjust-A-Loft Should You Choose?
| Feature | FIB-254 – Without Cooling Foam | FIB-255 – With Cooling Foam |
|---|---|---|
| Adjustable polyester fiber | Yes | Yes |
| Add/remove fill | Yes | Yes |
| Overall pillow size | 16" × 24" | 16" × 24" |
| Cooling memory-foam layer | No | Yes |
| Foam layer size | — | 16" × 21" × 1/2" |
| Approximate weight | 2 lb | 2.5 lb |
| Main reason to choose | You want the simplest all-fiber adjustable configuration | You want adjustable fiber plus an additional foam surface layer |
The fiber adjustment works the same basic way in either configuration. The FIB-255 adds a removable polyurethane foam layer; it does not replace the adjustable fiber filling.
Choose FIB-254 without cooling memory foam when
- Adjustable fiber loft is your primary reason for buying the pillow.
- You prefer a simpler all-fiber sleeping surface.
- Lower weight is useful.
- You do not specifically want an added memory-foam layer.
Choose FIB-255 with cooling memory foam when:
- You want the same adjustable fiber system plus an additional foam layer.
- You prefer a more defined foam contact surface over the adjustable fill.
- The extra 1/2-inch layer is desirable for your sleeping setup.
The important point is that “with memory foam” and “without memory foam” are product configurations—not different pillow sizes.
What Does “Adjustable Loft” Actually Mean?
Loft is the effective height or thickness of the pillow beneath your head.
With the Adjust-A-Loft, you change that height by changing how much cluster fiber remains inside the pillow.
| If the pillow feels… | Adjustment |
|---|---|
| Too tall | Remove some fiber |
| Too low | Return saved fiber |
| Uneven after use or unpacking | Fluff and redistribute the cluster fiber |
| Right on one side but not another | Redistribute the fill before removing more |
| Different after changing sleep position | Retest the loft for the new position |
Small clusters of polyester fiber that can move within the pillow when it is fluffed. The zip-open construction provides access to the fill while an internal liner helps contain it during adjustment.
This process is different from choosing between “Soft,” “Medium,” and “Firm” versions of a conventional pillow. You are adjusting the amount of material inside one pillow.
Starting Fill Guide by Sleeping Position
Different starting instructions for side, back, and stomach sleeping. The following table turns those instructions into an easier comparison.
| Sleep position | Manufacturer starting point | Then adjust when… |
|---|---|---|
| Side sleeping | Start with the pillow substantially/full filled | Remove fiber if the head feels too elevated |
| Back sleeping | Remove approximately 1/4 of the fiber | Remove more if too high; return fiber if more loft is preferred |
| Stomach sleeping | Remove approximately 1/3 of the fiber | Continue reducing loft if the pillow remains too tall |
| Combination sleeping | Start between the settings needed for your most common positions | Fine-tune based on which positions you spend the most time in |
These are starting points rather than measurements of an ideal final loft. Testing the pillow after each adjustment rather than removing a large amount of fill and assuming the result will fit.
Side Sleepers: Start Fuller
Side sleeping usually requires more distance between the mattress and head because the shoulder creates additional space.
For the Adjust-A-Loft, Core recommends initially trying the pillow without removing fiber. If it feels too tall, try removing a small amount and testing it again.
The advantage over a fixed-height pillow is that you can reduce loft incrementally rather than choosing another pillow entirely.
Back Sleepers: Start by Removing About One-Quarter
Core Products recommends that back sleepers begin by removing approximately one-quarter of the fiber and saving it for later.
Lie on the adjusted pillow for several minutes before making the next change. If it still feels too tall, remove more. If you prefer more loft, please return some of the saved fiber.
Stomach Sleepers: Use the Flattest Starting Setup
A recommendation for stomach sleepers is to remove approximately one-third of the fiber, fluff the remaining fill, and then test the height.
Further fiber can be removed if the pillow remains too prominent.
That adjustability is a key reason to choose the Adjust-A-Loft over a molded cervical pillow: the same rectangular pillow can be configured substantially flatter when the sleeping position requires it.
Adjust-A-Loft vs. a Fixed-Loft Pillow
| Feature | Adjust-A-Loft | Conventional fixed-fill pillow |
|---|---|---|
| Change pillow height after purchase | Yes | Usually not. |
| Remove excess fill | Yes | Usually not. |
| Return fill later | Yes | Usually not. |
| Adapt for different sleep positions | Yes | Limited by original construction |
| Requires replacing the pillow to change the loft. | No | Often |
| Traditional rectangular shape | Yes | Usually |
The Adjust-A-Loft's main advantage is therefore not a special cervical contour. Its advantage is control over the amount of fill.
Adjust-A-Loft vs. Cervical Pillows
The Adjust-A-Loft should not be treated as interchangeable with our shaped cervical pillows.
Those products build specific neck-support geometry into the pillow. Adjust-A-Loft has a more traditional rectangular sleeping surface and lets the sleeper adjust the overall loft.
| Balego pillow | Construction | Main adjustment method | Sleep-position emphasis | Best reason to choose |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Adjust-A-Loft | Adjustable polyester cluster fiber; optional foam layer | Add/remove fiber | Side, back, stomach | You want control over overall pillow loft |
| Tri-Core Cervical Support Pillow | Polyester fiber | Choose size/firmness and two cervical rolls | Back and side | You want built-in cervical geometry with a fiber-filled feel |
| Double Core Select Cervical Pillow | Precision-cut polyurethane foam | Four interchangeable support inserts + two lobes | Primarily back/cervical support | You want to adjust cervical-roll firmness rather than overall fill |
| Therapeutica Cervical Pillow | Molded foam | Anatomical size + firmness selection | Back and side | You want measurement-driven molded sleep zones |
Adjust-A-Loft vs. Tri-Core: Adjustable Height or Built-In Cervical Shape?
Both pillows use polyester fiber, but they solve different fitting problems.
| Feature | Adjust-A-Loft | Tri-Core |
|---|---|---|
| Overall shape | Traditional rectangular pillow | Shaped cervical pillow |
| Fiber | Adjustable cluster fiber | Fiber-filled cervical construction |
| Remove fill to change loft | Yes | Not the main fitting system |
| Built-in cervical rolls | No | Yes—two profiles |
| Recessed back-sleeping center | No | Yes |
| Dedicated raised side areas | No | Yes |
| Stomach sleeping | Manufacturer-supported Adjust-A-Loft configuration | Not its primary design |
| Main buying question | “How much loft do I want?” | “Which size, firmness, and cervical roll fit me?” |
Choose the Adjust-A-Loft when you want a conventional pillow shape with adjustable height.
Choose the Tri-Core Cervical Support Pillow when the built-in center cradle, cervical rolls, and separate side-sleeping surfaces are the reason for the purchase.
Adjust-A-Loft vs. Double Core Select: Two Very Different Types of Adjustability
The Double Core Select Cervical Pillow is also “adjustable,” but what it adjusts is entirely different.
| Adjustment | Adjust-A-Loft | Double Core Select |
|---|---|---|
| Change overall amount of fill | Yes | No |
| Change overall pillow loft substantially | Yes | Not its main system |
| Change cervical-roll firmness | No dedicated cervical roll | Yes—4 inserts |
| Built-in neck lobes | No | Yes—2 |
| Traditional rectangular surface | Yes | No |
| Main material | Polyester fiber | Polyurethane foam |
| Best fit | Wants a customizable conventional pillow | Wants adjustable cervical-support resistance |
The Double Core Select includes four interchangeable cervical-roll inserts from Gentle through Extra-Firm. Adjust-A-Loft instead lets you physically remove or return fiber to alter the pillow's height.
Adjust-A-Loft changes how much pillow is under your head. Double Core Select changes how resistant its built-in neck support feels.
With Cooling Memory Foam vs. Fiber Only
The cooling-foam option should also be treated separately from loft adjustment.
| Fiber-only configuration | Fiber + cooling foam configuration | |
|---|---|---|
| Adjustable cluster fiber | Yes | Yes |
| Foam layer | No | Yes |
| Foam thickness | — | 1/2" |
| Foam material | — | Polyurethane |
| Machine-washing preparation | No foam layer to remove | Remove foam before washing |
| Approx. pillow weight | 2 lb | 2.5 lb |
| Main reason to choose | Simpler all-fiber construction | Additional foam surface layer |
The optional insert is designed for cooling and contouring. Regardless of configuration, however, loft remains controlled primarily by adding or removing the polyester fiber.
How to Adjust Your Adjust-A-Loft Pillow
- Unpack and fluff the pillow first. The pillow ships compressed. Pull and punch the sides to redistribute the cluster fiber before judging its initial height.
- Start from the appropriate general sleep-position setup. Side sleepers can begin relatively full; back sleepers can begin after removing approximately one-quarter; and stomach sleepers can begin after removing approximately one-third.
- Open the zippered cover. Access the fiber through the internal liner.
- Remove a small amount at a time. Avoid dramatically flattening the pillow in one adjustment.
- Save removed fiber. Do not throw it away. Your preferred loft may change.
- Fluff the remaining fiber. Redistribute it across the pillow rather than leaving localized thin spots.
- Lie on the pillow for several minutes. Core recommends testing before continuing to remove or return fiber.
- Repeat until the desired loft is reached.
What to Expect When the Pillow Arrives
The Adjust-A-Loft is compressed for shipping, so it may initially look considerably flatter or less uniform than product photography.
Recommends aggressively fluffing it immediately after unpacking and notes that a compressed pillow may take several days—up to approximately 5–7 days—to fully regain its shape and performance.
Do not make your final fill decision based solely on how the pillow looks immediately after opening the package.
Materials and Care
The Adjust-A-Loft uses the following:
- 90% polyester / 10% rayon outer cover
- Baffle polypropylene liner
- Polyester cluster-fiber fill
- Optional polyurethane foam layer
- Latex-free construction
The pillow is machine washable. For the version with cooling foam, remove the memory foam layer before washing, fold the liner over the fiber, and close the cover. The manufacturer's current instructions specify warm-water machine washing without chlorine additives and low-heat tumble drying.
The foam insert itself should not simply be left inside the pillow during machine washing.

FAQs
What size is the Adjust-A-Loft?
The current Standard/Full model measures 16 × 24 inches.
Is the Adjust-A-Loft a memory-foam pillow?
Not primarily.
The basic pillow is filled with adjustable polyester cluster fiber. A 1/2-inch polyurethane memory-foam layer is an optional configuration, not the main fill material.
What is the difference between FIB-254 and FIB-255?
FIB-254 with the non-cooling-foam selection. FIB-255 with the optional cooling memory-foam configuration.
Can side sleepers use it?
Yes. Side sleepers should first try the pillow fully filled and remove fiber if the resulting loft feels too high.
Can back sleepers use it?
Yes, instructions recommend removing approximately one-quarter of the fiber, testing the pillow, and then adjusting further as needed.
Can stomach sleepers use it?
Yes, you can start by removing approximately one-third of the fiber and then reduce the loft further if needed.
Does removing fiber make the pillow softer?
Removing fiber generally reduces both loft and resistance/fullness, but the most precise way to describe the adjustment is that you are changing the quantity of fill. It is not a calibrated soft/medium/firm system.
Can I put the fiber back later?
Yes. Save the removed fill so it can be returned if you want to add additional loft later. Core specifically describes adding or removing stuffing throughout the life of the pillow.
Can the Adjust-A-Loft be machine washed?
Yes, according to Core Products' current care instructions. Remove the optional foam layer first when present, secure the fiber inside the liner/cover, machine wash warm without chlorine additives, and tumble dry on low heat.
Is it a cervical pillow?
It supports the head and neck as a sleeping pillow, but it does not use the molded or shaped cervical architecture found in products such as the Tri-Core Cervical Support Pillow, Double Core Select Cervical Pillow, or Therapeutica Cervical Pillow.
Choose Adjust-A-Loft primarily for adjustable overall loft, not for a built-in cervical roll or head cradle.
