AdvanTrode® Elite White Foam TENS/NMES Electrodes

AdvanTrode® Elite White Foam Electrodes are reusable, self-adhering electrotherapy pads designed for TENS, NMES, EMS, FES, and other compatible external stimulation devices.

The white foam series combines a flexible foam topcoat with a silver-coated carbon conductive film and 35-mil dual-layer hydrogel. Most sizes use an attached pigtail wire with a soft molded socket for compatible pin-style lead wires. The compact SF375 model instead uses a snap connection.

Choose from seven sizes ranging from a 1.375-inch round snap electrode to a 3" × 5" rectangular pad. Each case contains ten individually packaged electrode sets, with either 40 or 20 total electrodes depending on the selected model.

The silver-coated carbon layer allows current to flow across the electrode surface, and the dual-layer hydrogel helps the electrode stick and be reused.

Why Choose White Foam Electrodes?

Flexible Foam Backing

The white foam topcoat provides a soft protective layer over the electrode’s conductive film. It can flex with the pad and conform to suitable body contours while helping protect the internal construction during repeated handling.

White foam may be a practical choice when:

  • A soft, cushioned backing is preferred.
  • The electrode will be handled repeatedly in a clinic.
  • A white clinical appearance is desired.
  • The pad must conform to a rounded treatment area.
  • Cloth or tan-backed electrodes are not preferred.
  • Multiple shapes are needed within one electrode family.

The foam is the pad’s top backing. It is not a conductive adhesive and does not set the electrode’s polarity.

Silver-Coated Carbon Conductive Film

The conductive layer consists of carbon film with a surface-applied silver layer. It is designed to spread stimulation across the available electrode area rather than concentrating current only near the wire connection.

Construction featurePractical purpose
Silver-coated carbon filmSupports current distribution across the electrode
Flexible conductive layerMoves with the foam and hydrogel layers
Low-impedance wire constructionTransfers output from the lead wire to the electrode
Full adhesive contact areaHelps maintain a consistent skin interface

These are silver-enhanced stimulating electrodes, not solid-silver pads.

The presence of silver in the conductive film also should not be described as an antimicrobial feature unless that claim appears on the exact current product labeling. Pepin identifies the silver primarily as part of the electrode’s electrical construction.

35-Mil Dual-Layer Hydrogel

The 0.035-inch hydrogel forms the adhesive and electrically conductive interface between the electrode and intact skin.

The dual-layer design is intended to support the following:

  • Secure electrode-to-skin contact
  • Comfortable removal
  • Repeat same-user applications
  • Conformability over suitable contours
  • Consistent current transfer
  • Storage and reuse between sessions

Actual electrode life varies according to skin oils, perspiration, treatment frequency, handling, application area, and storage. Replace the pad when adhesion or stimulation quality declines rather than relying on a fixed number of uses.

Which White Foam Size Should You Choose?

Electrode size should be selected according to the treatment area, available skin surface, device instructions, and clinician-directed placement plan.

Selection needModel to considerReason
Very compact placement with snap leadSF375 1.375" roundSmall footprint and direct snap connection
Compact or curved treatment areaWF2 2" roundFamiliar round format with moderate coverage

Larger curved regionWF3 3" roundBroad circular contact area
Large muscle or broad placementWF35 3" × 5" rectangleLargest option on this product page

Smaller vs. Larger Pads

At the same device output, a smaller electrode applies stimulation over a smaller skin area, while a larger electrode distributes it across a broader area.

A suitable electrode should:

  • Fit fully on clean, intact skin.
  • Remain flat without folds or lifted edges.
  • Avoid overlapping another pad.
  • Match the device and lead-wire connection.
  • Fit the treatment area without crossing an unsafe location.
  • Meet any minimum-size requirements in the device manual.

For broader selection guidance, read How to Choose TENS Electrodes, Pad Sizes, and Lead Wires.

Understand the Two Connection Types

This product page includes both pigtail-style and snap-style electrodes. They are not interchangeable unless the lead wire has the corresponding connector.

Pigtail Connection

WF2, WF22, WF125o, WF13, WF3, and WF35 have an attached wire ending in a molded socket. A compatible electrode pin inserts into that socket.

The pigtail design:

  • Moves the electrical connection away from the adhesive pad.
  • Makes it easier to connect a lead without touching the gel.
  • Provides flexibility when the user moves.
  • Uses a molded grip for connection and disconnection.
  • Fits many—but not all—pin-style electrotherapy leads.

Snap Connection

SF375 has a snap connection mounted directly on the electrode.

Choose SF375 only when:

  • The lead wire has the matching snap connector.
  • A small round electrode is appropriate.
  • The device permits that electrode size.
  • The pad can remain flat at the treatment site.

Before ordering, inspect the connector on the existing electrode and lead wire. Connector compatibility is separate from device compatibility: a lead may fit the electrode but not the stimulator.

Browse our TENS lead wires and electrotherapy cables when the leads also need replacement.

White Foam vs. Tan Tricot AdvanTrode Electrodes

Both product families use AdvanTrode Elite silver-coated carbon construction and 35-mil dual-layer hydrogel. The primary differences are the topcoat, available sizes, and connector choices.

Best reason to chooseSoft white foam backing and snap optionFlexible tan cloth and extra-large sizes

Choose white foam when:

  • A soft foam top layer is preferred.
  • The treatment setup requires a small snap electrode.
  • A white clinical pad is desired.
  • The largest size needed is 3" × 5".
  • A foam-backed product is already used successfully.

Choose Tan Tricot when:

  • A cloth topcoat is preferred.
  • A 2" × 4" oval is needed.
  • Extra-large 4.25" × 7" coverage is required.
  • All selected variants will use pigtail-style connections.
  • A low-profile tan backing is preferred over white foam.

Standard White Foam vs. AdvanTrode Back Therapy Electrodes

The standard white foam product page should remain separate from AdvanTrode’s specialized back shapes.

Bulk Packaging for Clinics

Every AdvanTrode Elite White Foam case contains ten separately packaged sets.

This format helps clinics:

  • Assign one unopened package to a patient.
  • Keep unused sets protected until needed.
  • Standardize electrode models across a department.
  • Issue pads for supervised home programs.
  • Track product use by manufacturer item number.
  • Maintain reserve electrode inventory.
  • Reorder by exact size and connector style.

Case Configuration

Case formatIncluded modelsTypical use
40-electrode caseSF375, WF2, WF22, WF125o, WF13, and WF3Standard two- or four-electrode setups
20-electrode caseWF35Large pads, supplied two per package

One TENS or NMES channel normally uses two electrodes. Therefore:

  • A four-electrode package can support one two-channel setup.
  • A two-electrode WF35 package can support one single-channel setup.
  • The number of treatments depends on whether each patient receives a dedicated reusable set.

Reusable electrodes should be assigned to one person and not shared.

Compatible Electrotherapy Uses

AdvanTrode Elite White Foam Electrodes may be used with compatible devices designed for external stimulating electrodes, including:

  • TENS
  • NMES
  • EMS
  • FES
  • Compatible interferential or combination electrotherapy systems
  • Other clinician-directed stimulation applications allowed by the device instructions

They are not:

  • ECG or EKG monitoring electrodes
  • Iontophoresis medication-delivery electrodes
  • Defibrillation pads
  • Electrosurgical grounding pads
  • Ultrasound transducers
  • Dry carbon-rubber electrodes
  • Microvascular monitoring electrodes

The connected device generates the stimulation. The electrode provides the conductive interface between the device and the skin.

How to Apply the Electrodes

  1. Turn the electrotherapy device off or reduce every channel to zero.
  2. Confirm that the electrode connection matches the lead wire.
  3. Inspect the treatment site.
  4. Apply only to clean, dry, and intact skin.
  5. Remove lotion, oil, or topical residue that could reduce adhesion.
  6. Connect the lead wire to the electrode.
  7. Peel the electrode from its liner by holding the foam backing.
  8. Do not pull the pad from the liner by its pigtail wire.
  9. Place the entire hydrogel surface smoothly against the skin.
  10. Press the electrode edges flat.
  11. Connect the lead wires to the device when required.
  12. Increase intensity gradually according to the device instructions.

Do not allow electrode edges to overlap or touch.

When Should AdvanTrode Electrodes Be Replaced?

Replace the pad when:

  • It no longer remains adhered to.
  • The edges repeatedly lift.
  • The hydrogel is dry, damaged, or contaminated.
  • The gel is missing from part of the electrode.
  • Stimulation feels unusually sharp or uneven.
  • The pigtail wire is loose.
  • The molded socket is damaged.
  • The snap no longer connects securely.
  • Output becomes intermittent when the wire moves.
  • The foam backing is torn or permanently folded.
  • Skin irritation develops.
  • The pad has been used by another person.

Do not attempt to restore a worn electrode with tape, household adhesive, or ordinary conductive gel.

Safety and Use Notice

Use these electrodes only with compatible electrotherapy equipment and according to the device manual, current electrode labeling, and healthcare professional instructions.

Do not place ordinary stimulation electrodes:

  • Over broken, infected or severely irritated skin
  • Across the chest
  • Through the head
  • Over the front or sides of the neck
  • Where the current path could affect the heart
  • Over an area with significantly impaired sensation without supervision
  • In any location prohibited by the device manufacturer

Turn the device off before connecting, repositioning, or removing an electrode.

Discontinue treatment if stimulation causes burning, sharp pain, unexpected movement, persistent irritation, or another unusual response.

FAQs

What are AdvanTrode Elite White Foam Electrodes?

They are reusable, self-adhering electrotherapy pads with a white foam topcoat, silver-coated carbon conductive film, and 35-mil dual-layer hydrogel.

How many sizes are available?

The current Balego page offers seven models:

  • SF375
  • WF2
  • WF22
  • WF125o
  • WF13
  • WF3
  • WF35
How many electrodes come in a case?

SF375, WF2, WF22, WF125o, WF13, and WF3 contain 40 electrodes per case. WF35 contains 20 electrodes per case.

Every case contains ten individual packages.

Why does WF35 contain fewer electrodes?

WF35 is a larger 3" × 5" electrode and is packed two per pouch rather than four. Ten pouches provide 20 total electrodes.

Which model is the best general-purpose option?

WF22, the 2" × 2" square, is the most familiar all-purpose format. The correct size still depends on the placement area, device instructions, and clinician’s treatment plan.

Which model is best for a smaller area?

SF375 provides the smallest footprint but requires a snap lead. WF2 is a compact pigtail-style alternative.

Which is the largest size on this page?

WF35 is a 3" × 5" rectangle. Larger or more specialized shapes are available on the tan-tricot and back-therapy pages.

Are all of the electrodes pigtail style?

No. Six models use attached pigtail sockets. SF375 uses a snap connector.

Will these pads fit every TENS unit?

No. Most variants require a compatible pin-style lead wire, while SF375 requires a snap lead. Proprietary device-side connections also exist, so both ends of the lead wire must be checked.

Do the electrodes contain silver?

The conductive layer is silver-coated carbon film. The pad is not made entirely from silver.

Are the silver electrodes antimicrobial?

They should not be marketed as antimicrobial unless that claim appears on the exact packaging. The manufacturer describes the silver layer primarily as a current-distribution feature.

Can they be used with NMES or EMS?

Yes, as long as the device is compatible and the electrode size, connection, and placement follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Can one package be shared between patients?

No. Reusable electrodes should be assigned to one individual.

Are the pads disposable?

They are reusable for repeated same-user applications, but they should be discarded when adhesion, gel condition, connector integrity, or stimulation quality declines.

Can the electrodes be used on broken skin?

Ordinary stimulating electrodes should be applied only to clean, dry, and intact skin unless the product labeling and a qualified healthcare professional specifically direct otherwise.

Are these ECG electrodes?

No. They are therapeutic stimulation electrodes rather than disposable diagnostic monitoring electrodes.

Is WF35 sold as 20 or 40 electrodes?

The 20-electrode selector supports 20 total WF35 electrodes: ten packages containing two electrodes each.
