Saunders® Sacroiliac Belt by Chattanooga | SI Joint Support
The Saunders Sacroiliac Belt by Chattanooga is a low-profile pelvic support designed to apply direct compression around the sacroiliac region while conforming to the natural shape of the pelvis.
Unlike a taller lumbar support that wraps the lower back and abdomen, the Saunders SI Belt is worn low around the pelvis. Chattanooga specifies placement below the anterior superior iliac spines (ASIS) in front and across the posterior superior iliac spines (PSIS) behind. Its non-slip construction is designed to help maintain that position during activity.
Important: this listing includes the sacroiliac belt only. The optional stabilization pad is not included.

Why an SI Belt Is Different From a Lumbar Back Brace
The Saunders belt is designed specifically around the pelvis and SI region rather than covering a large portion of the lumbar spine.
That distinction matters when choosing among different types of low-back equipment.
| Product type | Where it works | Primary function | Best reason to choose it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Saunders Sacroiliac Belt | Low around the pelvis | Direct SI-region compression/support | You specifically need a low-profile pelvic/SI orthosis. |
| Lumbar support cushion | Behind the lower back while seated | Positional seating support | You want support in a chair or vehicle rather than a wearable brace. |
| Lumbar traction device | Lumbar spine while lying on the device | Applies clinician-directed traction | You need controlled lumbar traction rather than external compression. |
| TENS | Electrodes on selected skin areas | Electrical sensory stimulation | You are using electrotherapy for temporary symptom management rather than mechanical support. |
For seated support rather than pelvic compression, compare our IMAK Ergo Back Cushion.
For clinician-directed mechanical traction, the Saunders Lumbar Home Traction Device is an entirely different type of product and should not be treated as a substitute for an SI belt.
For electrical stimulation questions related to evaluated low-back pain, Balego already has a detailed TENS for Low Back Pain guide rather than duplicating that information here.
How to Choose the Correct Size
Measure around the hips where the belt will actually be worn—not at your natural waist and not from your pants size.
Chattanooga's manufacturer sizing is
| Size | Hip measurement | SKU | GTIN-14 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Medium | 32–42 in | 650306-300 | 00888912364720 |
| Large | 42–52 in | 650306-400 | 00888912364737 |
If your measurement is close to the boundary between sizes, follow your clinician's fitting recommendation or contact us before ordering.
Where Does the Saunders SI Belt Sit?
The belt is intentionally positioned lower than a conventional lumbar brace.
Chattanooga specifies that the non-slip belt sits:
Below the ASIS in front—the prominent points at the front of the pelvis.
Across the PSIS behind—the posterior pelvic landmarks near the sacroiliac region.
That low pelvic placement is central to the design. Moving the belt upward to the natural waist changes where the compression is applied and may also affect fit.
Contoured, Non-Slip Construction
The belt is designed to follow the natural contour of the pelvis rather than behave like a tall, straight abdominal binder.
Its plush construction is intended to make prolonged wear more comfortable, while the non-slip material helps limit migration during normal movement and activity.
Fit should still be checked periodically. A belt that is excessively loose, positioned too high, or sized incorrectly may not remain where intended.
Does the Saunders SI Belt Include the Stabilization Pad?
No.
The description for the medium and large belts specifically identifies them as “sacroiliac belt without stabilization pad."
The optional stabilization pad has historically been sold under part number 650307-001. Availability of that accessory should be confirmed separately.
Saunders Sacroiliac Belt vs. General Back Support
A sacroiliac belt and a general lumbar brace are not simply different widths of the same product.
A lumbar support generally surrounds the lumbar/abdominal region and may use broad panels, stays, or a lumbar pad. The Saunders Sacroiliac Belt is positioned lower and is designed specifically as a sacroiliac orthosis.
FDA currently lists the Saunders Sacroiliac Belt under Product Code IPW: “orthosis, sacroiliac, soft.”
That classification is useful when comparing products: choose based on the intended anatomical support and professional recommendation rather than purchasing a generic “back belt” solely because the symptoms occur near the lower back.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should I measure my waist or hips?
Measure your hip circumference at the level where the SI belt will be worn. Chattanooga's sizing information specifically states that measurement is taken at the hips.
What size is medium?
Medium, SKU 650306-300, fits a manufacturer-specified hip circumference of 32–42 inches.
What size is large?
Large, SKU 650306-400, fits a manufacturer-specified hip circumference of 42–52 inches.
Is the stabilization pad included?
No. The belt SKUs on this page are supplied without the stabilization pad.
Does the belt stay in place while moving?
The Saunders SI Belt uses a non-slip design intended to stay positioned below the ASIS and across the PSIS during activity. Correct sizing and placement remain important.
Is this the same thing as a lumbar back brace?
No. This is a low-positioned sacroiliac orthosis designed around the pelvis. A conventional lumbar brace generally supports a broader lumbar and abdominal region.
Is it the same as lumbar traction?
No. An SI belt applies external compression around the pelvis. A lumbar traction system applies a controlled pulling force to the lumbar region and is a different type of therapy equipment.
Does Balego include shipping?
