Compare iontophoresis electrode prices by the cost of one complete kit, using the same expenses and quantities for each offer. A 12-kit box can cost 20% more than a 10-kit box and still have the same cost per kit, provided every kit is suitable and usable.
For clinics treating multiple patients, the 12-kit format also offers a practical planning advantage: one box supplies two six-treatment courses, while two boxes supply three eight-treatment courses, assuming one complete kit per session. That makes it a strong purchasing choice when those clinician-directed plans match the clinic’s caseload.
This guide compares disposable electrode supplies for wired iontophoresis. The clinician should first approve the electrode configuration and controller compatibility. Price calculations then help the clinic compare suitable purchasing options.
How much do iontophoresis electrode kits cost?
The following are single-box merchandise prices for the selected small configurations. Per-kit figures are rounded to the nearest cent and exclude applicable tax and any quantity discount.
| Product and selected configuration | Item number | Kits per box | Listed box price | Merchandise cost per kit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Our buffered iontophoresis electrode kit, Small Square 1.5 mL | 201-4522 | 12 | $61.95 | $5.16 |
| Ionto4, Small Square 1.5 mL | NC89375 | 12 | $74.95 | $6.25 |
| Trivarion, Small 1.5 mL | NC89180B | 12 | $87.95 | $7.33 |
Check the selected option on the linked product page for the price when you order. Other configurations may have different prices. These figures compare supply expense; they do not establish that the products are interchangeable or produce equivalent clinical results.
Why do some offers contain 10 kits and others contain 12?
Pack quantity depends on the product and seller’s unit of sale. The three product listings above each specify 12 kits per box.
Do not assume that a listing for one is simply a differently sized box of the other. Verify the exact product and configuration before comparing the price.
A complete electrode kit includes an active drug-delivery electrode and a return electrode, along with the stated preparation supplies. A 12-kit box therefore provides 12 paired electrode setups. Dividing its price by 24 individual electrodes would understate the cost of the complete setup.
Ask a seller to clarify any price labeled only “each,” "pack," or “case.” The useful number is the count of complete kits delivered for that price.
Why 12-kit boxes make sense for clinics treating multiple patients
Twelve kits is an established pack format in wired iontophoresis: our buffered electrode kits, Ionto4 and Trivarion, all use it. For a clinic supplying several patients, its practical advantage is how neatly it can match the total number of planned treatments.
The examples below assume clinician-directed courses of six or eight treatments, one new complete kit per session, no existing stock, and the same approved electrode configuration for all patients shown. The treatment count is a planning assumption; the treating clinician determines each patient’s actual course.
| Planned patient courses | Complete kits needed | Buying 10-kit boxes | Buying 12-kit boxes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 patients × 6 treatments | 12 | 2 boxes: 20 kits, with 8 remaining | 1 box: 12 kits, with none remaining |
| 3 patients × 8 treatments | 24 | 3 boxes: 30 kits, with 6 remaining | 2 boxes: 24 kits, with none remaining |
| 2 patients × 6 treatments, plus 3 patients × 8 treatments | 36 | 4 boxes: 40 kits, with 4 remaining | 3 boxes: 36 kits, with none remaining |
In these patient groups, 12-kit boxes are the more efficient purchasing unit by quantity: the clinic orders fewer boxes and receives exactly the kits needed for the planned courses. The 10-kit orders also cover the treatments but require purchasing additional inventory. Whether the 12-kit order costs less depends on the quoted prices and delivery charges.
For an eight-treatment course, the four kits remaining from a 12-kit box can stay in eligible clinic inventory for another patient requiring that configuration. Two boxes then cover three eight-treatment courses exactly. Allocate separate unused kits from clinic stock; every treatment requires a new single-use kit.
This advantage depends on the patient mix. Keep suitable remaining kits as inventory, and calculate each configuration separately. Do not change a patient’s treatment count to match a box size.
What is the electrode supply cost for six or eight treatments?
Using the listed $61.95 price for our Small Square buffered electrode kits, the unrounded cost of $5.1625 per kit allocates $30.98 to a six-treatment course or $41.30 to an eight-treatment course, rounded to cents. This assumes one kit per session and eventual use of all purchased kits. These are allocated electrode costs; whole-box purchasing determines the amount due when ordering, and medication and clinical care are additional expenses.
Can a more expensive 12-kit box be the better value?
Yes. Consider these hypothetical offers for clinically suitable kits. The example assumes zero shipping and fees and excludes tax. It is an arithmetic illustration, not a current sale or a comparison of clinical performance.
| Example offer | Price per box | Boxes needed for 120 kits | Merchandise total | Cost per kit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 kits per box | $60.00 | 12 | $720.00 | $6.00 |
| 12 kits per box | $66.00 | 10 | $660.00 | $5.50 |
The 12-kit box has a higher sticker price, yet purchasing the same 120-kit quantity costs $60 less. Comparing ten boxes with ten boxes would miss the difference: those orders contain 100 and 120 kits, respectively.
For patient planning, 120 kits can supply 20 six-treatment courses or 15 eight-treatment courses under the same one-kit-per-session assumptions. Comparing the same treatment capacity makes the purchasing difference easier to assess.
What is the break-even price for a 12-kit box?
For one box of each size, use the totals after the same categories of shipping, fees, discounts, and tax:
12-kit break-even total = 10-kit total × 1.2
If ten kits cost $60 delivered, twelve kits can cost $72 delivered and still equal $6 per kit. Below $72, the 12-kit option has the lower cost per kit; above $72, the 10-kit option does. This calculation assumes all kits can be used.
If both boxes have the same delivered price, twelve kits cost approximately 16.7% less per kit. Twelve is 20% more than ten, but that does not translate into a 20% reduction in unit cost.
Include shipping and discounts in the same calculation.
Use the full supply-order total when comparing quotes:
Delivered cost per kit = (kit subtotal after discounts + shipping + required fees + applicable tax) ÷ total complete kits
Keep tax treatment consistent between offers. For a comparison before tax, omit tax from both totals; include it when calculating the actual amount the clinic will pay. Allocate any shared order charge consistently if the order also contains unrelated supplies.
For example, $12 shipping on a 10-kit order adds $1.20 per kit. On a 12-kit order, the same charge adds $1.00 per kit. A merchandise-only comparison leaves that expense out.
We offer free standard U.S. shipping with no minimum order. Our free-shipping and delivered-price guide explains the offer. Apply any confirmed product discount before dividing the total, and check additional delivery services separately if required.
Keep the full calculated value for budgeting and round only the displayed per-kit figure. Multiplying a rounded unit price back by the box quantity may differ slightly from the invoice.
Request bulk quotes for the same number of kits.
A comparable bulk request specifies complete kits, approved configurations, and the delivery requirement. “Ten boxes of iontophoresis electrodes” is not enough when suppliers use different pack quantities.
For example, a 120-kit requirement means twelve 10-kit boxes or ten 12-kit boxes. Confirm that the quote identifies:
- The exact product, configuration, and item number, including any proposed substitution.
- Complete kits per box, boxes per quoted case, and the total kits being purchased.
- The final merchandise total, discount conditions, shipping, fees, and applicable tax.
- Availability, expected dispatch timing, and any remaining shelf-life requirement for the shipment.
If the clinic needs several configurations, request separate line items. Do not assume that different sizes qualify together for a quantity tier or that a coupon can be combined with a quoted discount. Our clinic bulk-purchasing guide covers the broader inventory decision.
What happens to the saving if some kits go unused?
Cost per purchased kit assumes the entire quantity remains useful. For a purchase decision, also consider the quantity the clinic expects to use before expiration or another reason that makes the stock unsuitable.
In the earlier example, the $66 box costs $5.50 per kit when all 12 are used. If two must be discarded and only ten can be used, the acquisition cost allocated across those ten becomes $6.60 per usable kit. That is higher than the $6.00 figure for the 10-kit offer when all ten of its kits are used.
Valid kits left on the shelf are still inventory; they are not automatically waste because they were unused this month. Distinguish stock expected to support future work from stock that will expire or cannot meet the clinic’s approved requirements. Do not count extra uses of a single-use kit as a way to lower its cost.
Round your order to whole boxes without losing sight of demand.
If the clinic needs 30 additional kits of one approved configuration, three 10-kit boxes provide exactly 30. Three 12-kit boxes provide 36, leaving six for future use; two provide only 24 and would not meet that requirement.
Include those six additional kits in the cash needed for the purchase, then decide whether they fit the clinic’s expected use and remaining shelf life. Apply the same process to each configuration after accounting for usable stock already on hand and confirmed incoming supplies.
For differences in electrode shape and fill volume, use our Ionto4 versus Trivarion comparison before substituting a less expensive item.
What does the electrode kit price leave out?
The listed electrode kits do not include the prescribed medication, reusable controller, or controller lead set. Filling supplies, equipment upkeep, and professional services may also affect the clinic’s overall treatment expense. An electrode-kit calculation measures the disposable supply cost, rather than the complete cost of an appointment.
For a new wired system, review the ActivaDose II controller listing and confirm the required compatible supplies. Self-powered patches are a different purchase; our IontoPatch cost guide covers that format.
